Multiple-Input Multiple-Output acoustic testing of turboprop fuselage structures

Learn how Siemens and its partners have developed a faster and cheaper approach for helping to cut the noise inside turboprop cabins by reducing the need for expensive and time-consuming flight tests or low noise wind tunnel tests. Instead, a near-field array of loudspeakers can be used to synthesize a pressure field on the fuselage surface similar to the loads generated by both the turbulent boundary layer and the propeller blade passages, simultaneously.

Monitoring of Virtual Full-Field responses during Direct Field Acoustic Noise (DFAN) environmental acoustic tests

Learn how the space industry is reducing cost and risk over standard environmental acoustic test processes.  Instead of performing tests in expensive, large reverberant chambers, the space industry is moving towards more use of the Direct Field Acoustic Noise (DFAN) test method.  However, it can be difficult for engineers to truly understand what is happening with the system during a test.  Simulation can help overcome this problem, and this paper will show how a full multi-physics model, which simulates the electro-acoustic frequency response functions (FRFs) of the physical test system, is directly accessible online during the DFAN test.  Engineers can update the simulation model onsite using the experimental FRFs obtained in the system identification step.  Using simulation in connection with test helps engineers gain insight into certain physical phenomena which are difficult to foresee based on the observations at a limited number of sensors

Simultaneous control of multiple strain responses in MIMO Random vibration control tests

Over the last decade, engineers have brought laboratory testing conditions closer to replicating the in-service operational environment through the use of Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) random vibration control. To help make lab test even more closely resemble the real world, this paper will cover a new unexplored possibility in the MIMO random control testing practice: the simultaneous control of multiple strain responses instead of traditional accelerations.

Latest software and hardware developments enabling enhanced replication of MIMO Random vibration environments

Although Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) control has been in existence since 1958, it has widely been seen as too complex and only began getting traction with the test engineering community in the early 2000’s.  The objective of this presentation is to give a detailed insight on how software and hardware advancements in recent years in MIMO control technology help realistically reproduce random vibration environments that products experience during operation while also overcoming the stigma of overcomplex testing practices.

Fundamentals of Classic Shock and SRS Shake Testing

This tutorial will cover the fundamental concepts of shaker shock testing, from field data acquisition to Classic Shock and Shock Response Spectrum (SRS) wavelet synthesis in a vibration controller. The tutorial will cover shock data acquisition and processing, along with a segment addressing the sensors used for this application.  See live demos of data acquisition and shaker tests and get hands-on opportunities to try out the tools.
