D-Cubed CDM Version 56.0

By JonR

Key enhancements introduced in version 56.0 of D-Cubed CDM (Collision Detection Manager) are described below.

Improved Contact Detection Between Facet and Exact geometry

CDM supports any permutation of accurate and facetted geometry types, including mixed models which include both. A proliferation of mixed models is being driven by processes that use mesh data, such as 3D scanning, topology optimization and additive manufacturing. Facet models associated with these processes are finding their way into engineering design environments which have traditionally worked with b-rep models. Computer-Aided Design applications that adopt Parasolid Convergent Modeling technology are now able to support mixed models where modeling operations can be performed on combinations of facetted and classic b-rep data. The integration of CDM in such applications enhances this support for mixed models with fast and accurate collision detection.

Version 56 contains improvements to computations between accurate and facetted geometry.

The CDM functionality to detect contacts between facetted and exact geometry has been improved to correctly report contacts and collisions in the cases where “find-contacts” and “contact-is-collision” are enabled respectively.

About D-Cubed CDM D-Cubed CDM (Collision Detection Manager) is a software component that offers collision detection and clearance distance measurement for solid, surface and wireframe models. It supports accurate, tolerant and faceted geometry. Used in assembly, mechanism, machining and measurement simulation environments, CDM offers a range of algorithms to interactively detect collisions and compute clearances, even on large, complex assemblies. Performance is particularly excellent for repeated computations on models that are in motion. CDM is compatible with most applications, being independent of any modeller or model format.
