NX Student Edition: Feedback from around the globe

The student edition of NX continues to be free and is being used by students all around the globe. We were lucky enough to receive feedback from engineering students across various parts of the world. You can see their responses in the video below.

Take advantage of the free NX Student Edition and use it to your benefit as the students in the video have! See what the most innovative companies around the globe are using to design, simulate, and manufacture their products.

What’s included in the trial?

  • Comprehensive 3D design tools including solid, surface, wire-frame, and synchronous modeling
  • Full suite of CAM programming tools to program 2- to 5-axis and multifunction CNC machine tools
  • Sophisticated freeform shape modeling, surface continuity, analysis, and visualization tools
  • Supports output to 3D printing formats
  • Model-driven process using integrated software for design, NC programming, and additive manufacturing

  • As an NX industry user, as a graduate student, and as a university teaching assistant – I really love that students are now able to install and use on their own computers without barriers like access to physical labs or fast network speeds required for remote access.

I think another great feature for the educational edition could be for students to authenticate with their educational credentials within NX to enable the functionalities present in the full academic package.

Finally, I’m sure this has been brought up many times, but I really think new-grads or hobbyists should have an NX edition for them to stay effective design practitioners and evangelists for the software in their future endeavors. While I personally think NX is the most advanced/complete CAD/CAM/CAE package out there, it seems as though students who are “raised” on NX are used as pawns to further entice large organizations to use NX, and that enthusiasts/startups are simply not important to Siemens’ business strategy.

  • As same as mikefish I really love that students are now able to install and use NX on their own computers. The February Update looks cleaner and smarter than the previous versions. As Professor, I really thanks Siemens PLM for the support and the exceptional work imprinted in the release of the NX Student Edition. Still I would wish a NX Student Edition that will be able to Export to PDF and Print in the near future.
