Simcenter Nastran 2512: Accelerating engineering innovation with unmatched performance and usability

What’s new in Simcenter Nastran 2512

The latest release of Simcenter Nastran delivers a leap forward in simulation speed, usability, and integration—empowering mechanical engineers to tackle ever more complex challenges with confidence and efficiency. Here’s what’s new and why it matters for your engineering workflows.

1. Virtual fluid modeling – Now 3–5x faster

Fluid-structure interaction is critical in aerospace, automotive, and industrial applications. The new VMOPT=3 option for virtual fluid modeling eliminates the need for dry mode convergence studies, delivering numerically stable results up to five times faster than before. This means you can analyze fluid-filled tanks and complex hydro-elastic systems with unprecedented speed, accelerating design iterations and reducing time for launch readiness for spacecraft and launch vehicle projects.

2. AMD-Optimized performance

Simcenter Nastran 2512 now integrates the AMD Optimized CPU Library (AOCL), unlocking 15–50% faster simulation times on AMD EPYC™, Ryzen™, and Threadripper™ processors. For large-scale models—think 22 million degrees of freedom—this translates into even faster solutions, enabling you to solve larger models more efficiently

3. Linear static analysis – Up to 50% faster

Linear static analysis is the backbone of structural simulation. The latest release features a revamped matrix factorization algorithm, slashing simulation times by up to 50%.

4. Advanced material modeling – Anand viscoplastic law

For electronics and solder joint reliability, Simcenter Nastran nonlinear analysis now supports the Anand viscoplastic material law. This enables accurate simulation of stress integrity and life duration in solder balls and electronic connectors, helping you design for durability in demanding environments.

5. Continuous performance improvements for nonlinear analysis

Nonlinear simulations are now faster and more scalable. The latest enhancements allow you to solve larger models in less time, including highly complex cases like turbomachinery with contact and creep. Performance is further optimized for AMD hardware, ensuring you get the most out of your compute resources.

6. Smarter data management – SCD5 result file format

With Simcenter 3D 2512 nonlinear analysis now supports results in SCD5 file format. Managing large result files is now easier with the new SCD5 format. Compared to OP2, SCD5 files are smaller, more flexible, and easier to read, manipulate, and write. This streamlines post-processing and integration with Simcenter 3D for nonlinear and cyclic modal analyses.

Why upgrade?

With these enhancements, Simcenter Nastran 2512 empowers mechanical engineers to:

  • Run simulations faster and more efficiently, even on large and complex models
  • Leverage the latest hardware for maximum performance
  • Model advanced materials and nonlinear behaviors with confidence
  • Manage and analyze results more effectively
  • Most importantly, the release also consists of several bug fixes
