Get on the road to full automation with a digital transformation.

By Paul van Straten

It is estimated that the autonomous vehicle (AV) market will be worth a staggering $7 trillion dollars by 2050. These full automation vehicles will be some of the most complex that OEMs have ever faced making, computers on wheels, with software, chips and electronics at their core. The delicate balance of integrating mechanical, electrical, electronic and software systems adds complexity, leaving some OEMs, whose development approach is based on siloed domains and somewhat outdated communication methods, struggling.

Consumers have been quick to see the benefits of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADASs) but gaining their trust as we move towards SAE level 5 full automation will be a more difficult challenge. One of the biggest hurdles for the industry will be to convince drivers that their safety and security are guaranteed.

While the AV market will certainly continue to open up new opportunities, it is not a given that OEMs will receive their fair share. Unsurprisingly, they are not the only ones racing to develop tomorrow’s fully automated vehicles, tech companies, start ups and ride sharing services are all vying for their piece of the pie, leveraging their unique expertise to innovate.

Any inability to deal with complexity or compete with speed and agility of tech companies will leave OEMs out in the cold.

If you want to stay at the cutting-edge, it is time to rethink your approach and shift left.

At Siemens we want to give you the solutions to deliver complex products with confidence. So, we have produced a new on-demand webinar. Join our experts as they give you a detailed overview of how systems engineering can help you accelerate innovation and boost performance.

Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) is the solution to develop future autonomous vehicles successfully. Multi-domain modelling gives a cohesive view of system integration, whilst virtual validation and verification in the digital twin enable you to spot errors early on. You can optimize designs and guarantee reliability by simulating millions of possible scenarios virtually, to reduce the development cycle. The comprehensive digital thread offers a single source of truth to improve the flow of data across domains, enhancing collaboration and improving traceability from product definition to on road performance.

Create the trust your customers need with Siemens’ solutions for Autonomous Vehicle Development.
