Hannover Messe, one of the world’s largest trade fairs dedicated to industry development, was held May 30 – June 2. We at Sustaira are proud to have participated in this event with Siemens and Mendix. In case you missed it, we want to provide an overview of our contribution to the event.
Partnering for a sustainable future
The Siemens motto for Hannover Messe 2022 was, “Let’s combine real and digital worlds for a sustainable tomorrow.” This motto couldn’t be more aligned with Sustaira’s goal. Mendix’s industry manager for supply chain management, Sönke Hotsch, shared a handful of examples of where Mendix and Sustaira can partner to help companies through their sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) journies. Specifically, Mendix and Sustaira co-presented:

Sustainability and ESG challenges
The Sustainability and ESG journey requires overcoming substantial challenges. Regardless of where an organization may be, whether just starting to set goals or diving into scope 3 emissions, there are core challenges almost everyone faces. Examples include but aren’t limited to:
- Difficulties keeping up with changes to requirements and regulations
- Sustainability and ESG data are siloed and disparate internally and externally
- Manual, error-prone processes and Excel spreadsheets make aggregating and managing data difficult and inefficient
- Inability to turn insights into measurable action without a way to track progress and results of set goals
- Struggles engaging employees, students and other stakeholders around sustainability
- Inefficient reporting and a lack of transparency in the supply chain and product lifecycle
Sustaira’s Sustainability Circle
Mendix’s enterprise low-code platform is an essential tool in solving these challenges. Sustaira leverages Mendix to address each and every challenge above and has created the Sustaira Sustainability Circle as a visual representation of how Sustaira functions on top of Mendix.
Sustainability and ESG extends well beyond reporting. It includes the entire sustainability journey: from goal setting to data aggregation and awareness, to taking action and seeing results from those actions to the ever-important digital reporting piece. It even goes beyond the “E” of ESG and includes social and governance applications. Within the circle, Sustaira has created low-code application templates dedicated to the needs of each area. These templates are building blocks to accelerate an organization’s journey and can be rapidly tailored to each organization’s needs.
Underneath the circle, you see internal and external data sources such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), product lifecycle management (PLM), human resources (HR) systems, Excel and more. Think of Sustaira and Mendix as a smart layer on top of these systems. Sustaira’s low-code applications integrate directly with these systems to bring all of your sustainability into a single source.
