Huntsville, AL Connection to SkillsUSA – Siemens PLM Blog

By MarkBurhop

Siemens is one huge company, so when something cool happens here in Huntsville, Alabama, I’ve got to blog about it.

Local students Isaac Wasilefsky, Shawn Harris, and Avance Earskine competed in the SkillsUSA Competition in Kansas City. (What is SkillsUSA?Here is a video). In particular, I’ve got to point out Isaac Wasilefsky who won the gold medal for drafting using theSolid Edge design software.  Guess what Huntsville people – Solid Edge is developed right here in Huntsville too!

Siemens PLM Honors Isaac Wasilefsky for SkillsUSA Technical Drafting Competition; Using Solid Edge

The team that competed in the Kansas City, Missouri competition got together for an awards ceremony with Huntsville Mayor Tomy Battle and Siemens PLM Vice President Bill McClure last week. Some of the Siemens folks that attended were able to get a few pictures for our Flickr Site (or click here for a slide show).

Leading up to the national competition, Isaac Wasilefsky, a senior from Huntsville Center of Technology, placed first in the Alabama competition where this year’s design challenge was redesigning a component of a console lock for a 2011 Honda vehicle.  Heath Hunter, a student at Calhoun Community College, placed first in the Post Secondary Division also using Solid Edge.

Like I said, It’s pretty cool us Huntsvillians can produce not only world class design software but also world class students and world class education to go with it.
