Las Vegas was the place to be this past December and it wasn’t because of the Sphere

There are a lot of reasons to visit Las Vegas. And this past December, the place was abuzz as a major industry event was about to take place. The anticipation of a fabulous show was top of mind for all those planning to attend.
What was the event? The 13th annual Amazon Web Services (AWS) 2024 re:Invent conference. A conference that has quickly become the “go-to” event for GenAI learning and understanding among the global cloud community.
It is here, at this show, the premier event for AWS, where attendees gathered to listen to keynote speeches by industry leaders and get the latest from AWS top executives. Where attendees had the opportunity to engage in hands-on labs and gain practical experience using AWS tools and technologies.
Generative AI – front and center
The impact of Generative AI (GenAI) was seen everywhere. No question, GenAI was the central theme at the show. And it’s safe to say people’s expectations around GenAI are changing by the day.
This is where the tight collaboration between Siemens and AWS was on display. We’ve been working with AWS for over ten years and the GenAI movement is our latest endeavor together. It’s clear large enterprises and small- to medium-sized business alike want more than just a chatbot at their disposal. They want to learn how GenAI can free them of the mundane and tedious tasks and evolve into something beyond anyone’s imagination.
Both Siemens and AWS are aware of the role GenAI needs to play. At this year’s show we demonstrated numerous applications and technologies to move the entire GenAI movement forward.
Incidentally, Tony Hemmelgarn, CEO, Siemens Digital Industries Software gave a dynamite presentation at last year’s re:Invent. Here’s the link to Tony’s presentation describing how Siemens and AWS are working together.
First up, AWS CEO Matt Garman

Without question this was the must-see event. Matt sent the tone and filled the room with excitement as he touched on AWS product reveals, insights and new tools and announcements to help users unlock the true value behind GenAI.
You can watch Matt’s keynote address here.
Everything Matt touched on along with an exciting announcement around Amazon Bedrock’s multi-agent collaboration capability (in preview) are nicely captured in this blog.
Our next stop is an Innovation talk with our own Jelena Mitic
At the Innovation Talk, Architectural methods & breakthroughs for innovative apps in the cloud, Jelena Mitic, SVP, Global Head of Automation at Siemens presented Siemens Industrial Copilot for Engineering on AWS. This technology helps to address the scarcity of skilled automation engineers with domain-specific programming languages by providing programming assistance for Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) code in the Structured Control Language (SCL) programming language, or structured text. It leverages Amazon Bedrock allowing more than 120,000 Siemens Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) users to build and scale GenAI applications with a broad choice of foundation models to best meet different use case needs. Jelena talks specifically how Anthropic’s Claude models, available in Amazon Bedrock, provide a basis to fine-tune these languages using Siemens’ deep industrial domain knowledge, to test, and to validate them directly within operational environments.
Watch the video and you will come away with a better understanding of what Siemens and AWS are doing in state-of-the-art GenAI factory automation.
For additional information, visit Jelena’s blog were she goes deeper into GenAI. There’s also this AWS blog that offers a comprehensive recap of this year’s re:Invent focused entirely on the manufacturing industry.
Our latest collaboration with PhysicsX – harnessing the power of GenAI – announced at the show
Siemens announced its collaboration with PhysicsX at the show. PhysicsX is a startup leveraging GenAI to enable breakthrough engineering in advanced industries. Our collaboration aims to create the next generation of AI-based, deep-physics simulation to accelerate performance prediction and optimization. PhysicsX is building its latest pre-trained deep physics model for aerodynamics on high-fidelity simulation data generated with the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.

Look! There’s Mendix CEO Ray Kok presenting with Snowflake

Mendix CEO, Raymond Kok, and partner, Pugal Janakiraman, of Snowflake, joined together to discuss accelerating data-driven application development for IT/OT operations.
Snowflake, a cloud-based data storage company, is a good example of how Siemens and AWS are working together to help our customers move quickly and realize their own digital transformation. Mendix, a Siemens company, has played a crucial role in helping companies of sizes, regardless of industry tap into the powerful value behind GenAI.
Next stop – the Siemens booth where attendees learned about accelerating their digital transformation
The theme at the booth “accelerating digital transformation together” is something Siemens knows how to do quite well. Only Siemens knows how to combine the real and the digital worlds with our comprehensive digital twin. Visitors learned how the Siemens Xcelerator open digital business platform empowers companies of all sizes across a variety of industries. They learned through our digital threads and industry solutions how Siemens and AWS are working to simplify, accelerate and scale digital transformation for our customers.
Attendees got to see how Siemens Xcelerator, which includes Teamcenter X, NX X, Mendix, Insights Hub and others, accelerates product design and engineering.
Visitors also had a chance to experience Siemens EDA’s Innexis Architecture Native Acceleration (ANA), which is a high-speed, cloud-based virtual platform designed to accelerate software development. Innexis enables software workloads to run natively on Arm-based servers, achieving significantly higher speeds compared to traditional instruction set simulation-based virtual platforms. Cloud hosting further enhances scalability, offering flexible compute resources and easy browser-based access to tools.

Siemens and AWS showcased how GenAI is seamlessly integrated into solutions such as Mendix and Teamcenter X giving customers pre-integrated industry solutions to help them embark on their digital journey based exclusively on their own priorities.
Once again Siemens receives “Partner of the Year” awards

Siemens won three highly coveted Partner of the Year awards from AWS during the show. Award winners are recognized as leaders for playing a key role in helping customers drive innovation and build solutions on AWS. These awards are judged by a neutral, third-party governing body which adds even greater credibility. The AWS Partner Awards recognize partners whose business models continue to evolve and thrive on the AWS ecosystem as they work with customers.
These awards underscore the strength of our collaboration with AWS and our shared commitment to driving innovation, delivering transformative technologies and making a meaningful impact on industries and communities worldwide.
