New Look: Technical Publications in Active Workspace

You can now create your technical publications in Active Workspace. Teamcenter Content Management and RapidAuthor for Teamcenter now support component content management, XML authoring, and technical publishing in Active Workspace. From spare parts catalogs to training guides, work instructions to complete product manuals, your engineering data can be leveraged into XML content and interactive graphics in Teamcenter as part of the digital thread.

Connected digital thread through technical publications

If you’re not familiar with the digital thread, it’s the connected data flow and integrated view of the asset’s data throughout its lifecycle across traditionally siloed functional engineering disciplines. Originally an aerospace concept, it’s now being implemented across industries and is often talked about as part of the design, manufacturing planning, production, and service execution. We’re extending that to include the technical author and illustrator.

I’m not just talking about giving tech pubs access to the data digitally. Technical writers can research product structure and details, be part of workflow and notifications and discuss aspects of documentation and product directly in Active Workspace. In many industries, those tasks account for 50% or more of a technical writer’s time. But now you can also manage traditional DITA and S1000D component content management in Active Workspace and relate the topics, data modules, and publications to the products they support.

You can generate XML text and illustrations by creating RapidAuthor topics, relating the bill of materials nodes, and launching the editing session from Active Workspace This application maps the JT and PLMXML data to XML content and illustrations and allowed you to “write” using a visual 3D editor quickly and accurately. More importantly, updating that content as product designs change or products are serviced to stay current with the product configuration.

New look and feel of technical publications

Check out how we’re changing the way tech authors and illustrators create and update product documentation. You can take advantage of your investment in PLM to bring them into the digital thread, where they can easily create highly effective technical publications for your technicians and customers quickly and accurately with RapidAuthor and Content Management.
