Solid Edge helps Tremonia Mobility design environmentally friendly, efficient, and customizable minibuses

In the evolving world of mobility, one company is making an outsized impact—Tremonia Mobility. Based in Dortmund, Germany, Tremonia may be a mid-sized manufacturer, but its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and precision sets a new benchmark in the minibus market. Siemens is proud to support Tremonia in this mission, with Solid Edge and NX powering their transformation from a former Daimler business unit to a fully independent, future-ready OEM.

A New Chapter of Innovation and Independence

Tremonia has been in the premium minibus business for over two decades, producing more than 25,000 vehicles to date. Since becoming independent in 2022, the company has fully embraced its identity—down to its name, derived from the Latin term for Dortmund—and is leading the way with a product line that balances performance, sustainability, and versatility.

Their latest model, the Tremonia City 75 ELECTRIC, is a testament to that evolution and was recently rewarded as the International Minibus of the Year 2025 at the International Bus and Coach Fair (FIAA) in Madrid. Fully electric and capable of transporting up to 34 passengers with a range of 300 kilometers (190 miles), this vehicle embodies the future of emission-free public transport. Municipalities and transport operators like Germany’s Potsdam Bus and Völklinger Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH are already integrating these buses into their fleets.

The City 75 ELECTRIC was the quietest minibus in the test. It’s easy to drive, offers comfortable entry, flexible seating configurations, and state-of-the-art safety features. Its powerful electric motor ensures a good range, and its length of 8.5 meters offers ample space for 34 passengers.

But the company’s progress extends beyond product innovation—it’s rooted in a transformation of their design and engineering processes, enabled by Siemens software.

Enabling Faster, Smarter Design with Siemens Mechanical Design

Following their departure from Daimler, Tremonia faced the challenge of migrating nearly three terabytes of legacy design data. Their solution? A dual-software strategy that combines NX for advanced design and Solid Edge for rapid, intuitive development, both part of the Siemens Mechanical Design bundle.

“Solid Edge gave us the flexibility and freedom we needed to reestablish our development environment independently,” says Christian Wünsch, Head of R&D and Product Management at Tremonia. “It’s intuitive, powerful, and ideal for a fast-moving company like ours.”

The transition was supported by Siemens Solution Partner ISAP AG, which provided essential services like data migration, infrastructure setup, and staff training. Within just two weeks, Tremonia’s 12-person design team—spread across Germany and India—was fully operational in Solid Edge.

Solid Edge’s Synchronous Technology also plays a key role, enabling Tremonia to make quick modifications to parts and assemblies—critical when working with large data sets and adapting existing designs to new configurations.

Manufacturing Sustainability at Scale

Tremonia’s success is not only about cutting-edge tools; it’s also about a philosophy of sustainable design and local manufacturing. All of their minibuses are built in their Dortmund facility, with an annual production capacity of 1,200 to 1,400 units.

Their product versatility is unmatched: each model can be configured for intercity transport, urban commuting, sightseeing, or tailored to meet specific accessibility needs. This modularity, made possible with the help of Siemens software, means customers—from municipalities to private shuttle operators—get exactly what they need, without compromise.

Tremonia’s minibuses are designed and manufactured entirely in Germany.

Looking Ahead: A Stronger Partnership with Siemens

For Josa Prinz, chief executive officer (CEO) and chief technology officer (CTO) at Tremonia Mobility, the journey is just beginning. “The decision to adopt Solid Edge was driven by our need to be faster and more cost-effective,” Prinz says. “The selection of Siemens Xcelerator software tools is the result of a clear goal: we want to act faster while remaining cost-effective. The design and engineering capabilities of Solid Edge and NX—both being crucial components of Siemens’ Designcenter Software Suite— enable us to document parts, components, and 3D layouts more efficiently concerning breadth and depth and streamline and make processes more agile,” he adds.

Tremonia’s ambition is clear: to lead the shift toward sustainable urban mobility, supported by a scalable, efficient, and flexible design environment. The collaboration with Siemens is a key pillar of that vision.
