Who’s winning the match?

By Jenn Schlegel

Even though practically everyone on the planet is watching the beautiful game (definitely the case here in Belgium where The Red Devils are sizzling hot), we thought we’d throw in a bit of a treat for football and non-football fans alike: breaking news from the world of aerospace in our hot-off-the-press: Simcenter News Aerospace Edition.

cover.jpgYou probably already noticed the new Super Versatile Jet, the Pilatus PC-24, on the cover. This is big news in the world of aviation: Pilatus (along with a little help from Siemens) is one of the first aerospace manufacturers on the planet to successfully EASA and FAA-certify a completely new transonic jet using Siemens’ unique digital twin technology, the Siemens PLM Teamcenter backbone, as well as specialized Simcenter tools and expertise for aircraft structural dynamics engineering.

But don’t let me spoil everything for you. Download your Simcenter News issue and read the full cover story, including an enlightening interview with aviation engineering expert Bruno Cervia, vice president R&D and Deputy CEO of Pilatus.

Like the matches going on right now, there is definitely a nice mix of players in this issue. Some are experienced simulation specialists like Nicolas Damiani from Airbus Helicopters and Dr. Bert Verbeek from GKN Aerospace Fokker and some are rather new to the international game like the engineers from COMAC and Joby Aviation.

That being said, there is undoubtedly an innovation gold rush in aviation with projects like Solar Impulse, the CityAirbus, the E-Fan X and Siemens eAircraft all demonstrating that the way we fly is about to change and quicker than we think.

And before I forget, earlier this year, we got the opportunity to visit Bau 32 in Erlangen, Germany to meet the team behind the Siemens eAircraft. Make sure to read the Simcenter News feature on page 18, but also catch the movie that Karen De Meyer made about this young dynamic team and how they really take advantage of the entire Simcenter portfolio.

So whether or not you are a fan of football, take a few minutes between goals to read up on the latest in aerospace engineering and make sure not to forget the two superb stories about about the space side of things from Airbus Space and Defence and the GAIA telescope and Orbital ATK and NASA.

Just like the World Cup, we have something for everyone who is dreaming big these days…
