What’s New in NX | Intelligence Driven Design: Topology Optimization

You’ve hopefully seen by now our latest release of NX, but if you haven’t, then check out our first YouTube premiere. This video outlines some of the cool new features we’ve introduced. No matter the industry or field, we are passionate about delivering the best suite of solutions on the market. Not only this, but supporting and guiding our customers is a huge deal for us. So, if you haven’t already then head over to our community to connect with other NX users globally.

Automating a Complex Process

Let’s look at one of the features from the latest release, and one that was popular with our Early Access Program users – the Topology Optimizer. A new application that provides engineers with an intelligent design tool that uses functional requirements to determine an optimized structural form. In simpler words, benefitting the user by taking a complex task and automating the process. This automation can significantly reduce development times as it performs multiple iterations to generate an optimal result. Giving the user a mixed convergent body, means you’re able to edit smaller features like holes directly in your design. As opposed to previous, and having to re-run your simulation each time you make a change.

Providing more Efficient Designs

NX Topology Optimizer brings a brand-new integrated engineering application. Enabling ‘what if’ studies that allow better performing and more efficient designs based on functional requirements. The result of this provides users with an optimized feature (comprised of mesh and analytic geometry) that is no different to any other design feature. Topology Optimizer also includes all the associative update benefits.

Another benefit we can investigate here is for design experiments. Imagine you’re a designer and looking at where a material is needed to support the workload conditions and constraints. Topology Optimizer allows you to easily reference for design guidance when there is more support required for a design experiment, or a more advanced optimization. Through an easy-to-use environment in Active Workspace in NX, complex geometric tasks can be made simple!
