NX December 2024 release | Download now
We’re incredibly excited to announce that the December 2024 release of NX™ software is now available to download. Our previous release of NX saw some game changing updates, but with this latest release, we’re taking things one step further.
Our continuous release cycle strategy is built on feedback we receive from you, our trusted users. All solutions that we add to NX are integrated within the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio, meaning you can develop true digital twins of your product. Simulation capabilities maybe crucial to you, or perhaps you want to leverage AI to optimize your portfolio; with Siemens Xcelerator, you really are creating products to change the future.
The focus for this blog will be on four key pillars within our strategy;
Immersive Engineering
We have exclusively partnered with Sony to introduce a new solution to the market called Immersive Engineering. We’re combining the power of NX with Sony’s new XR Head-Mounted Display (HMD); the SRH-S1 to deliver the most precise and natural way to visualize, interact and collaborate in 3D. This dynamic software and hardware integration enables users to experience immersive engineering within a fully integrated user-centric virtual space.
The latest release of NX sees the introduction of Immersive Designer; the most natural way to experience a digital twin. Move beyond today’s limitations to create game changing products whilst you stand in the same space as your digital product.
We’ve focused on ensuring comfort and industry leading performance when ideating using the head-mounted display. The HMD comes with 4K OLED displays for each eye, ensuring the highest visual quality. On top of this, we’ve spent a significant amount of time optimizing the weight balance of the headset so that comfort is not a limiting factor when in Immersive Designer. Additionally, the HMD comes with a flip-up visor for easier multi-tasking and a borderless experience.
You’ll be able to experience NX in high-fidelity 3D that supports traditional mouse and keyboard inputs. Or, take advantage of the ergonomically optimized controllers to make precise changes to your model within a virtual space.

In case you missed it, we also released Immersive Explorer back in the December 2023 release. Immersive Explorer enables you to review CAD data in an immersive and interactive VR or desktop experience.
Flexible Deployment
The power of NX X
And now onto new enhancements for NX X. NX X delivers high-performance CAD capabilities and built-in data management in a cloud-native and SaaS environment. All Siemens Xcelerator software, including our NX products are interoperable and can share data seamlessly to enhance collaboration and accelerate design and production cycles.
As a ready to use managed solution, NX X can be scaled to suit the needs of your organization. With a completely secure and trusted environment, you can take advantage of real-time design collaboration for all product design and engineering needs. We’re proud of the fact that customers are purchasing and using NX X in as little as five days!
We’re building on an already fruitful partnership with the latest release of NX X to make our capabilities more accessible to the market. NX X is now available through Microsoft’s cloud and AI platform Azure marketplace, enabling organizations to benefit from Microsoft’s responsible AI tools and access enterprise-grade security.
Our relationship with Microsoft is now more than 35 years and we are pleased, once again, to expand this collaboration so we can best enable our customers to digitally transform through our joint solutions. Building on the success we are seeing with delivery of Teamcenter® X software on Azure, we’re now expanding to also bring our industry leading NX X product engineering software to the Azure platform.”

AI-enabled design
NX X is now part of Industrial Copilot
Let’s take a closer look at how Microsoft Azure is taking our AI offering to the next level. NX is now part of the Siemens Industrial Copilot ecosystem, bringing it in line with our three pillars for AI functionality across the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio:
Analyze
There’s a need to analyze particular elements in NX; perhaps you want to be shown the optimal approach to workflow. Maybe you need guidance on the best way to navigate the UX? Or you need pointers on how best to interpret data?
Optimize
Optimization is required throughout every corner of an organization. AI in NX will be able to suggest the best functionality to use in order to optimize products and balance any trade-offs.
Generate
For NX, having AI capabilities to generate the ideal model is key. AI can assist if you need to create a specific model, perform multi-domain tasks, and create engineering content.
Co-pilot for NX X lays the groundwork to transform engineering using these artificial intelligence capabilities. It’s a natural language assistant within NX X that uses industry best practices. These natural language inputs will enable you to execute complex commands, enabling new users to be brought up to speed quickly.
NX X Architecture
Let’s take a look at a specific capability that is built on AI within NX X. Select Similar Edges uses AI powered edge recognition, enabling you to perform a range of edge operations faster. It’s the perfect example of utilizing new AI features to optimize and refine your design, reducing the reliance on traditional 2D drawings.
Digital threads
In the final section, we’re focusing on new capabilities under ‘Digital Threads’.
What is a Digital Thread?
A digital thread is a discrete, linked, traceable sequence of activities in the production cycle of a product. Digital Threads and Digital Twins are affected by one another; digital threads can expand the comprehensive digital twin over time.
NX CFD Designer
For products involving fluid flow and heat transfer, getting timely simulation results feedback is advantageous whether you are verifying performance or evaluating design improvements. We have introduced NX CFD Designer as a new, accessible simulation tool for designers to perform common CFD analysis tasks themselves to empower decision making.
Being NX native means you can now access fundamental fluid flow and thermal simulation capabilities without leaving NX. You can view results on parts geometry and assemblies directly whilst exploring performance of different design changes.
NX CFD Designer features guided simulation set up, automatic meshing, a unique solver technology, and easy results viewing – so you can focus on leveraging simulation driven insights to streamline development.
It is included within the NX installation kit and is accessible through Value Based Licensing. NX CFD Designer is based on Simcenter FLOEFD technology. If you require more advanced analysis studies at any point, such as transient analysis, models are fully transferable to Simcenter FLOEFD for NX.
Note: If you are an existing Simcenter FLOEFD for NX user, please see the latest capabilites in the 2412 release.
Introducing NX Inspector
We believe that a short and strong feedback loop is key to capturing field experience and embedding it into continuously improving products. So, we’ve created a new application called NX Inspector.
NX Inspector makes it possible to provide first-class representation of characteristics in NX and trace them across the entire lifecycle of a product. Working with NX Inspector ensures you’ll adhere to industry and customer standards, define custom characteristic properties and see updates of characteristics in real-time.
NX Design for Manufacturing
We’d also like to introduce NX Design for Manufacturing (DFM); a new application intended to identify costly and problematic manufacturing on your design model. We’ve built multiple checkers that are specific for different manufacturing methods, whilst also giving you the opportunity to customize your checker parameters.
With NX DFM , you can reduce overall production costs for new products, educate your team on costly design features to avoid, and adhere to industry and company design standards.
Continue your journey with NX
As always, we will be bringing you even more updates through the first half of 2025. Our traditional tips and tricks series, as well as our what’s new in NX series will be making a return. Make sure to keep an eye for these updates in the coming months. In the meantime, continue your journey with NX and check out our blogs and videos from the previous (June 2024) release.
