WEEE..! Compliance!

By Christian Kelley

WEEE is Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and it is the fastest growing category of hazardous waste.

Brian Martin from Seagate Technologies is speaking about the challenges a high tech manufacturer faces in staying environmentally compliant, and how Teamcenter Enterprise Environmental Compliance is helping Seagate meet these challenges:

  • RoHS compliance strategy assures compliance to regulatory and market requirements

  • Seagate is requiring data on homogeneous materials throughout their supply chain.  24-25 thousand lab reports on materials.

  • At the same price consumers will choose “Green” products

  • It is cheaper to ask for full disclosure on every material used in manufacturing with supporting lab reports.

  • Specifications must support compliance to all applicable requirements and must support a 12-18 month compliance window.

Environmental Compliance is mission critical for High Tech manufacturers. Regulatory failure could result in significant business impact from fines to having products pulled from the shelves. Making a mistake in a consumer product can be disastrous for a manufacturer.
