Tom Quan is now officially retired from TSMC

For those of us in Semiconductor Ecosystem, watching the TSMC OIP (Open Innovation Platform) evolve from a fledgling foundry event for TSMC ecosystem partners into the massive production it is today has been an amazing journey.  There is one person who has been at the center of helping make this event what it is today, and that is TSMC’s Tom Quan.  Seldom, if ever, in the spotlight, but behind the scenes, Tom is the puppet master of TSMC’s US events.  As a long-term partner of TSMC, Siemens EDA has interacted with Tom for years, even when many of us were start-ups prior to being acquired by what is now Siemens EDA. Tom has always been a coach and mentor. He made participation in TSMC events as easy as possible and a lot of fun, too, as we together tried out new things over the years.

In June, Tom told us he was going to retire, so we planned a celebration lunch for him and the majority of the TSMC crew that helps him create the TSMC OIP event. Then, we found out that TSMC asked him to stay on for this year’s OIP event……oops. The trophy was dated June 2024, but we had the luncheon at Siemens EDA anyway!  There were lots of good stories shared, good food, and it was a fun atmosphere.  At the end of the party, we presented Tom with the trophy congratulating him on his achievements and wished him the best as he moves on to the next chapter in his life.  And now, with TSMC OIP US completed, we can share the event with everyone else that follows the Design with Calibre LinkedIn site!

All of us at Siemens EDA have greatly appreciated working with Tom over the years.  He should be proud of what he has helped create and its influence on the Semiconductor Ecosystem.

Moreover, if you happen to run into Tom in the future and agree with this blog, please go up and thank him as well.  The ecosystem is better because of Tom Quan.
