Siemens Acquires Austemper Design Systems
Breakthrough IC Functional Safety Technology Strengthens Mentor Product Offerings
In today’s complex automotive, industrial, medical and aerospace systems, functional safety and high reliability are mandatory in order to comply with safety standards like ISO 26262. Integrated Circuits in these applications require three types of functional safety verification for (1) systemic faults, (2) malicious faults and (3) random hardware faults. Mentor’s current products have solutions to uncover systemic faults and verification solutions of malicious faults for IC security. The Austemper technology adds state-of-the-art safety analysis, auto-correction and fault simulation technology to address random hardware faults.
Innovative Technology Performs Fault Simulation at Orders of Magnitude Faster than Competing Systems
Austemper technology analyzes a designer’s RTL for faults and vulnerabilities and is capable of smart fault injection to ensure safety mechanisms react in a planned manner for covered faults. Through parallelized and distributed operation methods, proprietary acceleration algorithms are used to achieve speed-ups of many orders of magnitude over standard gate-level fault injection techniques.
Acquisition Builds on Siemens’ Digitization Strategy
As Siemens disclosed, it plans to integrate Austemper’s technology into Mentor’s IC verification portfolio. This will build on a larger Siemens world-class functional safety solution available to companies developing digital twins of safety-critical systems that are at the heart of autonomous vehicles, smart cities and industrial equipment in Factory 4.0. Digital twins allow the development and test of systems to the highest degree possible before manufacture and deployment.
Learn more at the Design Automation Conference
There are numerous venues where you can learn more about this at DAC. The Mentor Graphics booth (#2621) and the Verification Academy booth (#1622) have planned presentations on Monday. The Austemper team can be found at booth #2456 during the conference. For conference attendees, there is a program panel on “The Automotive Digital Twin – Virtual or Virtually Impossible…” on Tuesday with Sanjay Pillay from Austemper as a panelist. We hope to see you at DAC and share more about the breakthrough functional safety products we have.
