Simple Energy is scaling electric vehicle development with Teamcenter X

Electric vehicle manufacturers face increasing product complexity as portfolios expand, vehicle variants multiply and engineering teams are asked to deliver new products faster. Managing product data, configurations and large assemblies across multiple vehicle programs can quickly become a challenge without a connected development environment.

That challenge helped drive Simple Energy’s expanded use of Teamcenter X. As the Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer continues to grow its EV portfolio, the company has deepened its adoption of Siemens software to support product engineering, variant management and digital transformation. Simple Energy is using Teamcenter X alongside Designcenter X within the broader Siemens Xcelerator portfolio to create a connected engineering environment that supports vehicle development across engineering teams.

Expanding EV programs creates new complexity

As electric vehicle companies introduce new models and configurations, product development teams often need to manage growing numbers of parts, options and engineering changes. For manufacturers seeking to scale efficiently, maintaining visibility across product information becomes increasingly important.

Simple Energy initially adopted Teamcenter X as a centralized product data management backbone to support collaboration across engineering functions. As its EV programs matured, the company expanded its use of the platform to address enterprise BOM management and increasingly complex vehicle configurations. The company now leverages advanced product configurator capabilities within Teamcenter X, creating a foundation for managing product definitions at scale.

Managing vehicle variants with a configurable approach

A key part of Simple Energy’s expanded Teamcenter X adoption is its use of a configurable BOM strategy.

The company uses a 150% BOM approach that provides a master configurable bill of materials containing all possible components, options and variants for a product family. This approach helps Simple Energy manage a growing portfolio of vehicle configurations from a common product definition while maintaining control over variant complexity. Teamcenter X then enables the creation of specific 100% BOMs for individual vehicle configurations, supporting efficient management of multiple EV variants.

“As our products scale in complexity, we’re strengthening the systems behind how we build them. With Teamcenter X and Designcenter X, we’re able to manage complex variants and large assemblies with greater speed and control, enabling us to accelerate development without compromising agility.”

Teamcenter X as the digital foundation

For Simple Energy, Teamcenter X serves as the company’s cloud-based product lifecycle management foundation, helping bring engineering data, product structures and development processes into a single environment.

This shared foundation gives teams greater visibility into product decisions as vehicles evolve from concept through production. It also helps establish a stronger digital thread, connecting information across programs and making it easier to manage change as new models and variants are introduced.

Extending engineering capabilities with Designcenter X

As vehicle assemblies became larger and engineering requirements more demanding, Simple Energy also replaced its legacy 3D CAD environment with Designcenter X. The expanded engineering environment supports advanced surface design, large assembly performance and 3D electrical routing and harness development while integrating seamlessly with Teamcenter X.

Combining design and lifecycle management capabilities in a common environment helps engineering teams work more efficiently while maintaining alignment between mechanical and electrical development activities.

Building a foundation for future growth

As electric vehicle manufacturers expand their product portfolios, the ability to manage engineering data, product definitions and variant requirements at scale becomes increasingly important.

Simple Energy’s expanded adoption of Teamcenter X and Designcenter X demonstrates how the company is building the processes and digital infrastructure needed to support continued growth. By extending its use of Siemens Xcelerator technologies, Simple Energy is creating a scalable development environment that can support future vehicle programs while helping teams stay aligned as products evolve.
