SEU15 Announces Keynote Speaker

philipnormanrobosynthesisseu15.pngOne of the worst insults you can offer someone who does public speaking is that they are “robotic”. But in this case, I think the keynote speaker for Solid Edge University 2015 might consider that a compliment. Philip Norman, the founder and CEO of Ross Robotics will be delivering the keynote address this year, and I can guarantee you what he has to say will be robotic. Ross Robotics has developed a modular approach to robot design, so you don’t have to go back and design an entirely new robot if you have a new application. Just design the attachment you need, and snap it into the modular system, which includes power and data as well as mechanical attachment.

Robotics is a hot topic in engineering and even in popular culture these days, and this type of system is clearly relevant to what many Solid Edge customers are working on. In fact, Mr. Norman has this to say about Solid Edge and his process:

“Solid Edge is a very flexible tool, it’s like a third hand or arm to a body. If you don’t have it, you’re back to sketching in sketchbooks and guessing and describing things to people. Solid Edge allows you to go from a concept, a sketch in your head, to a sketch in 3D. You can even test things in 3D, and actually test reliability.”

I’m definitely looking forward to this presentation. I’ll bet this guy played with Legos as a kid. The modular snap-in idea is fantastic.

There is still time to sign up for Solid Edge University, which is happening in Cincinnati, OH, on October 26-28.
