Expand NVH testing in the field with Simcenter SCADAS RS and its embedded Simcenter SCADAS Go app

What’s new Simcenter SCADAS RS 2606

Simcenter SCADAS RS 2606 expands NVH testing beyond the laboratory with smarter field acquisition workflows, higher-bandwidth measurements, and integrated torsional vibration testing. Engineers can now calibrate and optimize sensors directly in the field, capture higher-frequency vibration and acoustic phenomena, and acquire rotational data for advanced analysis in Simcenter Testlab, all through the rugged Simcenter SCADAS RS platform and its embedded Simcenter SCADAS Go app.

As products become more complex and operating conditions more demanding, engineers increasingly need to perform vibration, acoustic, and rotational measurements outside the laboratory. Whether testing an electric vehicle on a proving ground, evaluating an off-highway machine in the field, or monitoring a wind turbine drivetrain, measurement systems must withstand harsh environments while delivering reliable, high-quality data.

Field testing is no longer simply about taking laboratory measurements outdoors. Engineers need a workflow that can efficiently combine instrumentation setup, data acquisition, and advanced analysis while maintaining confidence in measurement quality throughout a test campaign.

With the latest Simcenter SCADAS RS and Simcenter SCADAS Go releases, we continue to expand the platform’s NVH capabilities beyond its established durability heritage. New software enhancements simplify field workflows, hardware updates enhance measurement performance, and new tacho-moment support enables advanced torsional vibration analysis when combined with Simcenter Testlab.

The result is a more capable field acquisition platform for engineers working across automotive, transportation, aerospace, energy, and industrial applications.

More NVH capability where it matters most

Streamlined sensor setup with AC calibration and autorange

Consider an off-road vehicle NVH campaign in which accelerometers and microphones are installed across the vehicle, and measurements must be performed under real operating conditions.

With release 2606, AC Calibration is now available directly in Simcenter SCADAS Go Recorder. Engineers can calibrate ICP accelerometers, microphones, and similar sensors at any point during a test campaign without leaving the application. This improves measurement confidence and simplifies field workflows when sensors need to be checked, replaced, or reconfigured.

Access instrumentation capabilities like AC calibration in Simcenter SCADAS Go on tablet and phone, for flexible in-field testing

Another addition is Autorange, which automatically adjusts the measurement ranges of multiple channels based on operating conditions. Instead of manually selecting ranges and risking overload or reduced resolution, engineers can let the system automatically optimize channel settings.

Together, AC Calibration and Autorange reduce setup effort, improve data quality, and help engineers focus on understanding vehicle behavior rather than managing acquisition parameters.

Expanded bandwidth for modern NVH applications

Modern NVH investigations increasingly require higher frequency measurement capabilities, particularly for electrified powertrains, high-speed rotating machinery, and advanced acoustic studies.

Building on developments introduced since release 2506, Simcenter SCADAS RS now offers expanded measurement performance with sampling rates up to 204.8 kHz and bandwidths up to 88.6 kHz, depending on the conditioning unit configuration.

Extended sampling rate and bandwidth for Simcenter SCADAS RS units for acoustic and NVH applications

These enhancements extend the range of NVH applications that can be addressed with Simcenter SCADAS RS, enabling engineers to capture higher-frequency vibration and acoustic phenomena while benefiting from the platform’s ruggedness, distributed architecture, onboard storage, and wireless accessibility.

For electric vehicle programs, this means improved support for measuring e-motor and inverter-related NVH behavior in real-world environments rather than only in specialized laboratory setups.

From harsh-environment testing to advanced torsional vibration analysis

With Simcenter SCADAS RS and Simcenter SCADAS Go Recorder, engineers can perform torsional vibration measurements in harsh environments as part of the same field campaign that acquires vibration and acoustic data.

Rugged torsional vibration measurement with Simcenter SCADAS RS and Simcenter SCADAS Go, in the field

Simcenter SCADAS Go Recorder captures tacho moments, representing the precise timing of tacho pulse-crossing events. These timing events are recorded together with the other measurement data and can later be transferred to Simcenter Testlab for advanced rotational analysis. Simcenter Testlab can then apply capabilities such as spline-interpolated rotational-speed calculation, accurate order tracking, and RPM-based analysis.

Tacho measurements with Simcenter SCADAS RS and Simcenter Testlab torsional vibration processing and analysis

This integrated workflow is particularly valuable for demanding applications such as:

  • Vehicle drivetrain and powertrain testing
  • Agricultural and off-highway vehicles operating in the field
  • Wind turbine drivetrain analysis
  • Industrial rotating machinery and shaft systems

By combining vibration, acoustic, and rotational measurements on a single rugged acquisition platform, engineers can eliminate the need for a separate torsional vibration measurement system. This reduces equipment complexity, setup effort, and data synchronization challenges.

Support for multiple tacho inputs also simplifies measurements on complex rotating systems where several shafts or rotating components must be monitored simultaneously.

The result is a seamless workflow from rugged field acquisition with Simcenter SCADAS RS to advanced NVH, torsional vibration, and order-based analysis in Simcenter Testlab.

A free embedded recorder is available with every SCADAS RS system

An important aspect of the SCADAS RS ecosystem is that Simcenter SCADAS Go Recorder is included with the hardware as a free embedded application.

The software is preinstalled on the acquisition system and can be accessed from any compatible device via a web browser. No software installation is required on the client device.

Using Simcenter SCADAS Go Recorder, engineers can, among other things:

  • Configure instrumentation and channels
  • Prepare acquisition setups
  • Control and monitor measurements remotely
  • Perform AC calibration
  • Use Autorange functionality
  • Validate acquired data after testing

This browser-based approach provides a convenient way to work with distributed acquisition systems in the field while maintaining the simplicity expected from modern measurement workflows.

The application is also part of the broader Simcenter free software offering, which now includes the newly introduced Simcenter Testlab Go Acquisition.
