Recap of STARWEST 2012: a Polarion Newbie’s perspective

By JustineB

Perhaps you are new to the software testing scene like me.  Or maybe you are a software testing veteran.  Regardless, StarWest 2012 is an event to remember.

The magical location

Located in Anaheim, CA at the Disneyland Hotel, I know that the location is not a deal breaker—attendees are either planning on going to the conference or not, and this decision is not based on location—but being a first-timer to any kind of software Expo, the sunny warm weather along with the infectious Disney atmosphere made StarWest all the more enjoyable.

How Polarion fits in with testing: “Manage your process, not the tool”

What made Polarion unique among the exhibitors was that many offered test automation tools, and Polarion QA is most certainly not one of those.  Instead, Polarion QA has the ability to link test cases to requirements and create transparency, provide traceability reports for testing, and easily integrate with the testing tools people may already be using.   In a nutshell, Polarion QA does not disrupt your existing workflow, and we are not even necessarily competing with the testing tools you already invested time and money in.  Instead, we help manage your test cases, not to mention that we are cheaper and easier to use than a lot of other test management solutions.

The state of testing today

Software testing is still currently a time-consuming and primarily manual task.  Talking with my more seasoned colleagues and listening to the attendees, I learned that more companies are increasingly inquiring about test automation integration, signaling that test automation is growing in popularity. With the growing use of test automation, the necessity of test management is also rising, as this creates a bigger need for the ability to manage test automation results in a meaningful and more efficient way (test results, collaboration, traceability, activity history, failures, and so forth).

Who doesn’t love free stuff?

A shout out to our XBOX winner, Shara Suhasini!  With a drop of a business card, she was able to bring home a cool prize.  In addition, we also contributed to the conference prize giveaways with an Amazon gift card and our signature polar bear mascot.
