Streamlining Animal Health and Traceability: Harness the Power of Siemens Opcenter RD&L

Introduction

Maintaining strict standards for traceability is a crucial aspect of the food chain, especially when it comes to animal identification and health. In the European Union (EU), the Regional Association of Animal Health and Identification (ARSIA) plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with these standards in southern French-speaking Belgium. This non-profit cooperative assists bovine and other animal farmers and veterinarians in preventing and combating animal diseases through proper identification and traceability. With the help of Siemens Digital Industries Software’s Opcenter RD&L, ARSIA has transformed its laboratory operations and achieved seamless traceability, administrative efficiency, and enhanced overall animal health.

Efficient Laboratory Operations

ARSIA handles a significant volume of samples every day, including blood samples and cadavers for analysis. With Opcenter RD&L, each job is tracked and traced from the source using registered animal ear tag numbers, enabling seamless coordination between veterinarians and the lab. The software allows ARSIA to manage multiple analysis requests, herd sample selections, and administrative information, streamlining the entire process.

Transition to Opcenter RD&L

Previously, ARSIA relied on multiple software programs to manage sample flows, leading to complexities and inefficiencies. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive solution, ARSIA chose Opcenter RD&L. Siemens’ local development support ensured a successful integration project, fulfilling ARSIA’s wish list of customization, universal interfaces, and dependable reporting and billing systems.

Improved Efficiency and Performance

Opcenter RD&L has revolutionized ARSIA’s laboratory operations, saving time, reducing operational costs, and ensuring accurate and auditable data. The software’s plate management feature automates sample organization, optimizing lab-tech time and reducing errors. With Opcenter RD&L’s seamless data integration capabilities, ARSIA can easily connect with external applications and extract critical data, further enhancing their autonomy and efficiency.

Traceability and Future

In the event of animal disease outbreaks, it is crucial for government bodies to have effective means of control. Maintaining traceability is vital to identify the source, transmission, and movement of animals. Opcenter RD&L provides ARSIA with essential traceability data, ensuring quick access to necessary information. ARSIA plans to expand its use of Opcenter RD&L and anticipates future mobile government procedures and LIMS processes with Siemens’ support.

Our digital transformation with Opcenter RD&L has been life changing for our lab techs. Our tool is extremely fast, yet familiar and easy to use. Our lab techs have everything they need right in front of them.
