Introducing NX X Manufacturing CAM – a new CAM-only flavor of NX X Manufacturing

Different businesses have different needs, and Siemens is meeting those needs with new flavors of NX X Manufacturing.  New to our NX X Manufacturing portfolio are the NX X Manufacturing CAM products.

What is NX X Manufacturing?

NX X Manufacturing is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) is a cloud solution offering you the flexibility, security, and scalability of cloud technologies. Previously, this was represented by a CAD/CAM solution, combining industry-leading computer-aided design and manufacturing.  Now, you have the option to purchase NX X Manufacturing in a CAM-only version.

These new NX X Manufacturing CAM products give you all of the advantages of the previously available cloud-based solution but with a focus strictly on CAM.

Is NX X Manufacturing right for me?

Siemens NX X Manufacturing in all its flavors offers a solution for companies to improve their efficiency and productivity with seamless software deployment, configuration, and modular functionality through value-based licensing. 

Seamless software deployment means no more heavy lift from your IT department when new versions of NX arrive.  You get the new functionality without the pain of re-installing the entire software suite.

The modular functionality in the NX X Manufacturing suite of products comes from Value-Based Licensing that allows you to add capabilities in an ala-carte fashion.  As you need functions they become available, and when you don’t need them those tokens can be applied to other functionality.  This means that NX X Manufacturing can accommodate the growth you have planned for your company as special jobs come in and are completed.

What are the new CAM-only products?

Within the manufacturing world there are companies with different missions.  These different missions require different solutions.  Large enterprises might perform all the functions of a full end-to-end, design-to-production process.  Meanwhile, smaller contract production facilities might focus on actual production and not perform design functions in-house.  These different companies need different solutions.  The new NX X Manufacturing CAM packages are a response to this reality.

The original NX X Manufacturing solutions have now been renamed as the NX X Manufacturing CAD/CAM solutions and a new NX X Manufacturing CAM product set has been released.

These new CAD-only packages exclude the design features from NX Modeling that were originally included in the original CAD/CAM packages.  This gives companies who focus on CAM and product production a set of products that are tailored to their specific needs without the cost overhead of design software that would go unused.

Included in the CAM-only packages are the same features as in the CAD/CAM products apart from design functions.  This means that data translation, assemblies, data management, and CAM functions are all present as they were in the original product set.  This also means that you get access to exciting capabilities like the AI Make Machining Suggestion function that is available exclusively in NX X Manufacturing. The feature modeling and solid modeling features are still part of the NX X Manufacturing CAD/CAM products but not included in the new NX X Manufacturing CAM products.

The new CAM products have the same Standard, Advanced, and Premium tiers as the CAD/CAM products.  The NX X Manufacturing CAM Standard product includes turning and 2.5 axis milling features.  The NX X Manufacturing CAM Advanced product adds in 3 axis milling and rotary machining.  Finally, the NX X Manufacturing CAM Premium product includes all CAM functions including 5 axis milling.  All the NX X Manufacturing CAM products include post processing and output functionality.

The bottom line is that the CAM products include all of the advantages of the cloud-based NX X products but focused solely on CAM and manufacturing.

What are the key takeaways?

The new NX X Manufacturing CAM products are available today and represent a new manufacturing-focused set of NX X products.  Companies whose business if focused on production like smaller contract manufacturers are a perfect fit for these new NX X Manufacturing CAM products.  You get the same advantages as the original products but without the overhead of included design software.
