We are in a modern digital age of engineering; thus, engineering education is becoming increasingly digital. In a modern engineering program, you don’t just learn engineering principles, you learn how to apply those principles with technology such as software.

In the era of digital transformation, software is involved in each stage of your engineering journey. You first learn why software is used. Then, you learn how to use (navigate) software. Next, you learn how to apply your engineering knowledge with software to solve design challenges. Once you begin looking for a job, you’ll need to prove to prospective employers that you can use software to solve engineering problems. Finally, as you work as an engineer, you will solve real-world engineering problems with your software and engineering knowledge. Using software, you will bring new, innovative products and solutions to market faster with increased quality, reduced costs and enhanced efficiency.

Designcenter NX Student Day invites engineering students to hear from industry engineers, early-career recent grads, professors and other experienced students on how they leverage Designcenter NX software throughout each of those stages.

What is Designcenter NX Student Day?

Designcenter NX Student Day is an annual virtual event that brings together students, educators and independent learners across the world to learn about how Designcenter NX is used in the industry and in academics. Speakers can range from industry experts, to professors, to members from the Designcenter NX team, and the academic team at Siemens. Not only will you learn what the software is used for, but you will learn tips and tricks for Designcenter NX and your career. Live attendees will receive a digital badge to highlight on their LinkedIn profile.

What you will learn at Designcenter NX Student Day 2025

Designcenter NX experts from Siemens Digital Industries Software will show you the value of new capabilities in the software and demonstrate how to use them, plus they will share guidance on where to find learning resources for the software, no matter what stage of the learning journey you are in.

• Professor Farshid Najafi from Simon Fraser University will explain why the School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering teaches Designcenter NX to engineering students and how they apply their learning to prepare for Industry 4.0 innovation.
• From learning Designcenter NX inside and outside of the classroom at Michigan State University, to applying those lessons as a finalist in Siemens’ 2023 Realize LIVE Sustainability Design Hack, to showing the value of those experiences while applying for jobs, to designing battery packs for electric vehicles— Harshil Jain from Stellantis will share his Designcenter NX journey.
• Graduate Research Assistant at FAU and winner of the Siemens’ 2025 Immersive Design Challenge, Suavi Yildirim will give insights into how he and his team, NextCycle, learned how to combine sustainable design principles and Siemens’ Immersive Engineering technology in Designcenter NX to imagine the future.
• Digitalization experts Valeri Siemens and Milan Rust from Polipol will show how they moved from traditional prototyping to a fully digital workflow and how they are transforming their product development process to create innovative upholstered furniture with Designcenter NX and immersive digital twin technology.
• Designcenter NX experts Jimmy Costello and Mollie Gladden will show the benefits of new features in Designcenter NX software as well as learning resources available to students and educators.

Designcenter NX student and academic software

We offer students free access to Designcenter NX software through our NX Student Edition. The NX Student Edition includes both CAD and CAM capabilities. Part files created in NX Student Edition cannot be retrieved in a commercial version of NX, but can be retrieved in the full academic packages available to educational establishments.

We also offer cloud-SaaS Designcenter X NX Academic Edition and on-premises NX Academic Edition to accredited academic institutions.
