NX Synchronous CAE – Part 3 – CFD

This is part 3 in the series “NX Synchronous CAE”.  In this post, I would like to discuss how Synchronous Technology can be useful in CFD (computational fluid dynamics)

Analysts face a unique situation with CFD.  Designers only provide geometry of the part itself. The geometry needed for CFD analysis needs to be generated in an extra step.  CFD analysts need geometry representing the fluid domain – typically the voids within a part.

Traditionally, analysts go through many time consuming steps to create the fluid domain geometry, such as defining a bounding volume, executing a Boolean operation to subtract the original geometry, and then cleaning up the geometry.  This process along with the limited geometry capabilities of most CAE tools have presented challenges to CFD analysts.

Further, in traditional systems, whenever the original part design changes the analyst has to go through all these time consuming steps to update the CFD model.
