Talking with attendees at last year’s Solid Edge University event it is apparent that the ability to meet with software and technology partners who are demonstrating a wide variety of complementary solutions is seen as a real benefit. At this year’s SEU15 event held in Cincinnati October 26th-28th we will again have a great group of partners available to discuss their solutions, including some who are exhibiting for the first time.

One of the first timer exhibitors is QuadriSpace who will be demonstrating their technical documentation and web publications software.  One of their solutions Share3D enables illustrated documents such as manufacturing and service instructions to be published to the cloud. Share3D users can incorporate Solid Edge models into these documents, and can also quickly create online parts catalogs with shopping cart features. In this demonstration you can click on parts in this Solid Edge Assembly, get a cost for the part and add it to your shopping cart. Catalogs published using Share3D can also access external pricing, inventory and other on-demand part information from ERP and PLM databases. QuadriSpace has been working closely with Solid Edge to ensure a good level of integration between the two solutions, and there is an entry level version of QuadriSpace’s Publisher3D technical illustration software available on our Solid Edge App Marketplace.

Design of wire harnesses and control panels is a key part of the product development process for many Solid Edge users and one of our long term partners in this area Zuken will be demonstrating E3.series. E3.series is a Windows-based, easy-to-learn system for the design of wiring and control systems, hydraulics and pneumatics in the aerospace, automotive, machinery, power, railway, special vehicles, and telecommunications industries. E3.series has a bi-directional integration with Solid Edge using the E3 Routing Bridge. Electrical harness components and data such as connectors, terminals, splices and netlist information are transferred to Solid Edge where engineers can route the cables in the mechanical space. This video shows how easily a wire harness can be imported into Solid Edge and routed within the mechanical design. Length and structure data for the wiring harness can then be transferred back to E3.series where the final details are added for manufacturing. In addition attendees at SEU15 can find out first-hand about the many enhancements made to the Solid Edge Wire Harness Design module in the latest ST8 release, or you can watch this video for a quick overview of these new capabilities.

Dynamic Designer Motion enables simulation of kinematics and dynamics using Solid Edge assembly models

The ability to analyze moving parts and understand the full dynamic behavior of their designs is critical for designers of machinery and many other products. Design Simulation Technologies (DST) are experts in this area and will be demonstrating their Dynamic Designer solutions at SEU15. In fact Simply Motion from DST is included inside Solid Edge to provide a basic level of motion modeling and analysis. More advanced capabilities are available in DST’s Dynamic Design Motion Professional enabling Solid Edge users to model, test and refine their products and output performance information like part interference, optimum motor size, cam performance, and gear and linkage layout that may otherwise require expensive physical prototypes to be built and tested. You can watch a demonstration of Dynamic Designer for Solid Edge here.

And just to give you a feel for the diversity of the add-on applications that you can find at SEU15 some of the other partners exhibiting include Microsoft (Windows 10, SharePoint, Surface Pro 3), Lenovo (PC workstations), Keyshot (3D Rendering and animations), 3DConnexion (precision input devices), Mechworks (technical document management), CADMAC (sheet metal manufacturing), Kenesto (engineering document management) and CAD Partner (plant design).

So another great reason to attend SEU15 is to meet one-on-one with experts from many different fields, strengthen your product design processes and move ahead of your competition! If you cant attend SEU15 then checkout the links above – and let us know if there are more applications you would like to see working closely with Solid Edge to meet your specific needs.
