My experience helping develop a service ticket management system (by Jarrett Foy)

During my internship at siemens, my partner and I developed a service lifecycle management app with the low-code program Mendix.

The application is designed to manage the complete service lifecycle of products and equipment, all the way from installation through maintenance and to retirement. It also tracks service history, schedule maintenance, managing warranties and optimizing service operations.

Beyond individual feature development, I played a pivotal role in unifying the application’s user experience.

Providing administrators and technicians precise control and functionality

In the service ticket management system, I engineered key features that empowered administrators to efficiently track, prioritize, and assign tickets to single or multiple technicians. This included creating a comprehensive technician management page, where admins could input vital information such as name, contact details, skills, and experience – crucial for optimizing technician assignment.

Admins were provided with a detailed overview of each ticket, encompassing its ID, issue type, priority, status, and creation/resolution dates, enabling them to effectively manage the entire workflow.

While administrators held significant control, technicians also had essential functionalities within the application. Their dashboard offered a streamlined view, prominently displaying the total number of open tickets and those specifically assigned to them, alongside a list of signed-in personnel. Crucially, technicians could initiate new tickets directly based on customer requests.

A fantastic Siemens internship with learning and collaboration

During my Siemens internship, I developed many personal and professional skills that are helpful in the workplace.

I learned how to effectively work in a team setting and communicate clearly with my teammates to achieve a goal faster and more effectively than I could by myself. Overall, I am very happy for this opportunity and thankful to my mentors for encouraging me to ask questions and stay curious.
