Intern interview & blog: Paul Daumeyer uses Mendix to help develop two robust apps

Editor’s note: Paul Daumeyer was a summer 2025 intern supporting the energy, chemicals and infrastructure industries at Siemens Digital Industries Software.

Watch this interview with Paul and read his blog post below describing his internship experience and skills he obtained.

How I helped developed two apps using Mendix during my summer internship (By Paul Daumeyer)

During my internship at Siemens, I used Mendix to help develop an application to keep track of possible merger and acquisition targets.

This app acts as a unified service platform for target companies and allows users to input key information about a target company such as industry, the rationale for acquiring the company, and the profitability acquiring the target would bring.

A basic yet robust app for merger and acquisition specialists

This information in the app can be viewed by industry leaders, merger and acquisition specialists, and business segment leaders. While this app is basic in principle, there are future plans to turn the app into a complete internal solution to merger and acquisition problems through integrating with Polarion.

This integration would accelerate the workflow because Polarion would enable industry leaders, mergers and acquisition specialists, and business segment leaders to receive email notifications when a company that was relevant to their field was input into the app. The result? Leaders could receive information quicker than previously and thus acquire or merge with companies before the window closes.

I also used Mendix to help develop an event registration app

Due to how many events Siemens hosts annually, and how much of a bottleneck there is with manual registration, I was tasked with starting development of an event registration app that connects to Salesforce and Polarion.

This app allows hosts to create events with all relevant information such as start and end dates, what will occur on specific days, and where the event is. Hosts can register guests, but guests are also able to register themselves for certain events with host/co-host approval.

While this is just a basic level of functionality, the app is planned to connect with both Polarion and Salesforce to ensure a strong digital backbone and that event information can be dispersed through electronic means like emails and QR codes.

What I Learned at Siemens

Though this is my third summer being an intern at Siemens, I found myself learning more each day than I ever had before. Throughout the Summer, I learned:

  • The Energy, Chemicals, and Infrastructure (ECI) Industry: Before I could even begin to work towards assisting the ECI industry, I first had to learn the industry inside and out to fully understand messaging and how I could provide value.
  • Mendix Low Code Platform: I learned as much about coding within the Mendix platform as I could and even obtained the intermediate certification.
  • Problem Solving: I rapidly improved at problem solving while creating Mendix apps from the ground up while making sure they were as efficient as possible.
  • Analysis and Market Research: I learned how to effectively gather information from various sources, how to consolidate that information, and how to analyze the information so that I could present it in a way that would be meaningful to others.
  • Communication Skills: Across all projects, I worked with a partner which furthered my understanding of communicating with others on complex projects. I also learned how to communicate what I liked or disliked about certain aspects of projects to others to ensure the project was the best it could be.
  • Leadership Skills: I led a team of six high school interns with little to no experience working on complex projects in a short time frame, so I gained the ability to lead efficiently and effectively.

  • Reading your story Among Us Online gives me more motivation. Sometimes we worry that the knowledge we have at school is not enough for practical work, but you prove that if we are willing to learn quickly and try, even an intern can create a valuable product.

  • This sounds like a really smart foundation for an M and A workflow, and I like how you are already thinking ahead about integrating Polarion to make everything faster and more connected. It reminds me of playing draw climber , where a simple mechanic becomes incredibly powerful once you start optimizing it.
