Introducing the “Sustainability in Electronics: Every Detail Matters” Blog Series.

Alan Porter, Global VP, Electronics Industry, Siemens Digital Industries Software –

Sustainability has become a critical factor for our industry, our world and our future. To address some of the pressing sustainability issues facing electronics companies today, we have put together a blog series entitled “Sustainability in Electronics. Every Detail Matters” because when it comes to sustainability, the most compelling factors are discovered in the details. At Siemens, we have learned the importance of details in our application of sustainable processes over the last few years in moving toward our sustainability goals. As a result, our Electronic Works Amberg plant is scheduled to be CO2-neutral in 2026. And company-wide, we are committed to ambitious goals of Net Zero operations by 2030, with a 55% emissions reduction by 2025 and 90% by 2030*.

The electronics industry is fortunate that the demand for electronics in products of all kinds continues to surge everywhere you look. Truly we are living in the age of electronics in everything. But as the demand for electronics products continues to grow, so does the responsibility to ensure that their design and production is environmentally responsible. We must carefully consider how to make electronics products with sustainable processes that reduce energy and water consumption, eliminate waste generation, and guide our selection of environmentally friendly materials to reduce the carbon footprint. And we must give equal consideration to planning their end of life to avoid our reliance on limitless landfills.

Design for sustainability

Electronics products and electronics manufacturing processes are increasingly complex, and so are the issues that must be resolved to move our industry toward more sustainable production processes. That’s why every detail matters from design to production.

Sustainability is a journey, and we invite you to journey with us as we blog about some critical topics to consider as your company moves toward meeting your own sustainability goals.

Together, we can move forward toward the goal of relieving the environmental stress in a world in critical need of a sustainable future. Please enjoy our first topic in the series – Smart is Sustainable
