How Siemens is Leading the Convergence of AI, Robotics, and the Industrial Metaverse [PODCAST]

In a recent podcast hosted by Automation World, Siemens Alex Greenberg, Director of Robotics 4.0 Simulation, joined the conversation to share how Siemens is making the industrial metaverse a working reality, specifically how immersive virtual reality, photorealistic simulations, and AI are accelerating robot deployment assessments and transforming manufacturing cell design.

The industrial metaverse is transforming the way manufacturers design, collaborate, and operate. By combining physics-based digital twins, IoT sensor data, immersive visualization, and artificial intelligence, the industrial metaverse creates a new way of working — one that enables real-time collaboration, system-level simulation, and centralized access to the “ground truth” across teams and locations.

As featured in the podcast hosted by Automation World, leading publication covering latest news involving industrial automation software and hardware, Siemens director of robotics 4.0 simulation, Alex Greenberg, shared how Siemens is driving innovation in the industrial metaverse. This includes connecting virtual design environments, AI-powered decision-making, and robot deployment tools which i enabling manufacturers to unlock a new level of agility, safety, and efficiency.

For example, take Siemens Process Simulate and the Tecnomatix Connector to NVIDIA Omniverse, enabling engineers to transfer simulation studies into an immersive, shared environment where geometry, logic, and motion remain intact. This enables real-time collaboration and a single source of truth across organizations, no matter where teams are located.

When we talk about the industrial metaverse, it’s not only about simulation, it’s also about the AI available using co-pilots or AI-based assistants that help engineers in their daily tasks to make them more efficient, help them make better decisions and collaborate. Engineers can now immerse themselves in industrial metaverse environments and work on projects collaboratively with photorealistic surroundings.

AI and the Rise of Autonomous Robotics

As Greenberg notes in the podcast, recent advancements in AI are unlocking a new era of robotics — one where robots can perceive, decide, and act with greater autonomy. Siemens is at the forefront of this evolution, integrating generative AI, machine learning, and machine vision into digital manufacturing environments.

Using simulation, AI-enabled robots can be trained in virtual worlds, tested against real-world variables, and optimized for autonomous operation in unstructured environments. This convergence of physical AI and immersive simulation is redefining what robots can do — from picking random objects to navigating dynamic workspaces.

Where AI-enabled robots and simulation meet, simulation can create virtual worlds in which these robots can be trained and validated in various scenarios to perform various tasks. Engineers can also test the robot’s perception and behavior based on feedback from the virtual environment to enhance their training and optimize their capabilities.”
