3D visualization in the Teamcenter Web Client got a major upgrade

3D visualization has always been at the heart of how engineers, designers, and teams work together in Teamcenter. But as the technology has changed and improved, so too have people’s expectations. Designers and engineers want fast, smooth, browser-based experiences that can handle huge models, and IT teams want simpler systems that are easier and cheaper to run. The latest upgrade to Teamcenter’s web client delivers on both fronts.

Why we’re moving to Client-Side Rendering

We’ve spent years making sure Client-Side Rendering (CSR) isn’t just a replacement for Server-Side Rendering (SSR), but that it’s a real step up. We’re excited to announce that we’ve reached that point. CSR is now the primary visualization technology for the web client, and SSR will be phased out.

What does this mean for you? With CSR, everything feels more responsive. You can rotate, zoom, and explore models right in your browser, with less waiting and no need for a dedicated visualization server. Thanks to modern browser tech and GPU acceleration, even complex assemblies are smooth and interactive.

Technologies like Render Acceleration mean CSR can handle much bigger models than SSR ever could. For users, that means less lag and a more modern, fluid experience.

Massive Model Visualization: working with huge data sets

As products get more complex, our visualization tools need to keep up. That’s where Massive Model Visualization (MMV) comes in.

MMV lets you work with models that are 10 to 100 times larger than before. You don’t have to wait for the whole thing to load, Teamcenter only brings in the parts you need, when you need them. Using smart techniques like occlusion culling and structure culling to load and show only visible items, the web client fetches and renders just what’s visible. As you move around, more data streams in on the fly to make sure the view is up to date and 100% accurate.

With Fast Cache and Smart Discovery indexing, you can start working right away – even as the rest of the data loads in the background. The result: you get to work faster, and your browser isn’t overwhelmed.

What’s in it for IT? Simpler, cheaper and easier to manage

The shift to CSR and MMV isn’t just good for users, it’s a win for IT, too.

CSR now runs on a VisServerless architecture. That means there’s no dedicated Visualization Server at all. No more extra hardware, deployment headaches, or support costs. Your browser session loads structure and JT data directly from Teamcenter’s File Management System (FMS), caching JT data locally using your browser’s indexedDB. Most visualization features, like model navigation, sectioning, measurement, and markup – run right in the client. Only a few specialized features rely on lightweight microservices hosted by standard Teamcenter infrastructure.

This makes everything simpler, more scalable, and less expensive to maintain.

Ready to get started?

We’re excited for customers to try VisServerless CSR – bringing a faster, more responsive 3D visualization experience for end users, and a simpler, lower-cost architecture for IT. With MMV and VisServerless, teams can work with bigger models sooner, while eliminating the server footprint needed to deploy and support visualization.
