Morris Medical Monday: Polarion MedPack Resolution Values

By morrisd

Welcome back to Morris Medical Monday: a weekly series for medical device development companies (and companies who are related to such companies), providing some useful information about Polarion solutions and Polarion extensions.

Today we will continue where we left off for the summer season on the subject of Polarion’s MedPack extension, and have a look into MedPack’s Work Item Resolution Values.

Work Item Resolution Values
When the work on a work item is done, it is put to the ‘Closed’ state. Anyway, there can be different reasons for closing a work item. These reasons are marked in the ‘Resolution’ attribute of a work item. As in MedPack work item types serve different purposes, the possible resolution values differ amoung them. This post gives an overview over all possible values of all work item types.

General Approach
Every Work Item Type has at least three resolution value options: A “positive”, a “negative” and the option “discarded”. Additionaly, some work items can be marked as “obsolete”.

  • Positive resolution: The work item serves its purpose in the positive meaning, i.e. a requirement has been approved or a software part has been implemented.

  • Negative resolution: The work item has been properly be worked on, but the result has a rather “negative” touch, for example a requirement has been disapproved.

  • Discarded: A work item marked as discarded is of no use at all any more – just like it has been deleted completely. This might be true for entries that have been made by mistake as well as for entries that are not needed any longer.

  • Obsolete: The resolution value “obsolete” marks obsolete entries. The difference to “discarded” is that the work item once served its purpose and had been properly closed, but is now no longer needed. Anyway, there could be some kind of historic value in the entry, which cannot be garanteed for discarded items.

Other possible values are work item type specific and are explained with the work item type.
