Opcenter X for scalable digital transformation

Summary

Siemens Digital Industries Software is pioneering modular MOM, enabling more manufacturers to take a stepwise approach to digital transformation. Built with cloud technologies and offered as software as a service (SaaS), using Opcenter™ X software, which is part of the Siemens Xcelerator business platform of software hardware and services, lowers the time and cost barriers for SMBs, enabling you to realize rapid return-on-investment (ROI) with modules that connect and adapt as your enterprise matures.

With Siemens as your MOM solution partner, you can be sure Opcenter X is built on a rich and deep knowledge base and the extensive capabilities of a leading software company. We listen to and learn from our customers, then innovate and capture best practices for every digital task. Then we apply best practices to accelerate time-to-value of our software.

Implementing Opcenter X can boost manufacturing productivity, product quality, time-to-market, and compliance by streamlining operations and decision-making. Siemens supports clients in their digital transformation journey, unlocking the full potential of manufacturing operations.

MES capabilities

  • Order Management enhancements
    • Adding and Acknowledging Comments to Operations and Work Orders
    • The Work Orders/Operations will have visual comments notification by a specific icon in the Work Order page whenever a comment is added
    • When specific permission is given, the user will be able to acknowledge a comment. Acknowledged comments are still visible in history
  • Audit Trail
    • Default view configuration of AuditTrail pages (both Shopfloor and Modeling): the user can define its own view configuration and set it as its default view of Audit Trail pages. When the user opens the AuditTrail page, the page is shown with the settings of the default view
  • Genealogy
  • Enhanced search box and Scan field: the user can search for an MTU by both using the scan field in the main command bar or the quick search field in the secondary command bar.
  • Electronic Signature introduction
    • The user can configure the Electronic Signature for CRUD operation for a specific object.
    • The user can configure ES reason, ES Scenario and configure the CRUD operation of an object for ES.
  • Resource management enhancements
  • Support of resource class subclassing
    •  Now, resource assembly task and resource usage task supports subclassing.
  • Configurable electronic signature for “Resource Class change status”
  • The ES kicks in while changing the status of Resource Class
  • The user can then provide his credentials
  • Support the UoM of the hold times on state
    • The user can create a state machine
    • The states can have a hold time duration with Unit of measure.

Quality capabilities

  • Closed Loop Quality – Enhance Inspection Plan to accommodate TC Q CP&IP input
    • Import Attachments related to Inspection Step: An image that an inspection planner has added to an inspection definition in Teamcenter CPIP is now also available for viewing by an inspector who performs this inspection step in Opcenter X.
  • Tracking external ID during Inspection Plan import: The following external IDs from Teamcenter are transferred to Opcenter X and stored there:
    • Inspection plan ID
    • Inspection definition ID
    • Characteristic ID
If a nonconformance is to be transferred to Teamcenter, these IDs can also be transferred. Teamcenter then knows exactly which planning data the nonconformance refers to.
    • Non-Conformance Export to Third Party: Support Additional Properties in the NATS message
  • Perform End to End Visual Inspection
    • Handling Issues of Graphical Visual Inspection in Non-ConformanceIES – Extend CreateNonConformance service to provide the defect picture with grid and defect locations
      • Within an NC generated from IES, the defect picture is now displayed with the defect points set by the person who created the defect
    • IES – Implement Show All for: Potential Failures, Actions and Cause Actions in NC generation
      • If a user cannot find a suitable entry in the list of preconfigured entries, they now have the option of selecting a suitable entry from all available entries
  • Managing Gages as Equipment
    • Gages can be defined as resource class:
  • These resource classes can then be assigned as test equipment and activated:

On creation and update of the resource a NATS message publishes the equipment. The app IES decides, if the equipment needs to be taken or not based on the configuration.

  • Execute a Measurement System Analysis (MSA) – The foundation for the subsequent implementation of a measurement system analysis was laid
    • Hint: The implementation of the calculations cannot be consumed yet by the UI!
    • MSA – Method 1, calculation of the capability key figures Cg and Cgk
    • MSA – Method 2 and 3, JSON structure and API function
    • MSA – Method 4 – 7: JSON structure and API function
    • Common Component – API function to calculate mean and sigma
  • Application functional improvements
    • NC-Mgmt – Enhancement of Live Picture capturing: Multiple images can now be added
    • IES – Optimization of Acquisition process
      • With the ‘Automatic characteristic selection’ option, data entry can now be performed entirely without a mouse.
    • IES – Support Failure tree and Classification for visual Characteristics
      • Defect lists for visual characteristics can be structured, and this structure is supported in data acquisition
      • The defect classifications are transferred to the acquisition

Scheduling capabilities

  • Resource capacity modes
    • Scheduling now supports different capacity modes allowing resources to behave either finite (single job at a time) or infinite (multiple concurrent jobs sequenced)
  • Custom Calendar States
  • Custom calendar states allowing the modelling of different efficacy periods as exceptions for one or more resources, with visual representation on the Scheduling Gantt chart.
  • Execution Group Support
  • Defined Execution Groups are now represented and considered as part of scheduling, along with associated display, without showing individual group operations.

Interoperability capabilities

  • Automatic creation of NATS Topics configured in Remote Interop Connector (RIC). Topics do not need to be predefined by Administrator
    • The NATS Topics configured in RIC for the InteropToExternal message type are now automatically created when RIC starts up.
  • OPC UA Connector supports Alarms
    • OPC UA alarms are a type of event that the OPC UA server can generate to notify clients about specific conditions in the system. An alarm becomes active when a certain predefined condition occurs.
    • OPC UA alarms can be integrated into Opcenter X for triggering automatic responses.
  • Interop REST API for easier testing of RIC
    • Allows easy independent testing of RICs for all types of connectors using REST API without the need to write any business logic in Interop extended model.

If you are a decision-maker in an SMB in discrete industries and resonate with the challenges discussed, consider exploring Siemens’ new solution Opcenter X. It might just be the catalyst your company needs to leap into the future with confidence.
