Realize LIVE blog series: The Cimolai Technology digital transformation with Siemens NX

By Drew Wilson

At Realize LIVE 2024, Giovanni Sabbini from Cimolai Technology captivated the audience with an inspiring presentation on their digital transformation journey and their adoption of Siemens NX™ software. Let’s dive into the highlights of their story.

Who is Cimolai Technology?

Located near Venice, Italy, Cimolai Technology is a leader in lifting and transportation equipment. Their mission? To be a trusted partner delivering specialized solutions for diverse projects and challenges. With facilities in Carmignano di Brenta, they cover all engineering aspects, from structural mechanics to software.

Embracing digital transformation

Giovanni Sabbini, Technical Manager and Project Manager, underscored the necessity of a powerful platform management tool. “We needed a very robust platform to manage all our data and to share it throughout our business departments. That’s why we chose Siemens NX,” Giovanni explained.

The company sought an accurate 3D model and a cost-effective tool. NX delivered, offering a stable system capable of handling large assemblies and various models.

Achievements and future steps

Cimolai Technology has reached significant milestones with NX, extending their product range across industries like civil, marine, renewables, nuclear, and aerospace. “We manage the full lifecycle of our equipment, starting from the offer, design, up to maintenance, after-sales, and disposal,” Giovanni noted.

Their commitment to innovation ensures they stay ahead in their field.

Collaborating with Siemens experts

Frequent collaboration with Siemens experts helps Cimolai Technology optimize processes. Using reference sets, similar load options, product outlines, and simplified comments, they manage large assemblies efficiently.

The digital version of their equipment allows them to manage all parts, from steel plates to welded structures and winches. This approach opens doors to advanced manufacturing and assembly directly in NX and provides customers with 3D models for easier maintenance and spare parts selection.

Innovative projects and advanced routing

Cimolai Technology has tackled unique projects, like a 100-meter lattice boom for a rail boom guide crane and an amusement ride inspired by the iconic photo of ironworkers at Rockefeller Center. These projects showcase their ability to blend knowledge from various fields to create innovative products.

They are also advancing in hydraulic, electric, and electronic routing, using models to represent flexible hoses and rigid pipes, enhancing efficiency and accuracy.

Cost-effective industrial setup

Transitioning from a handcrafted manufacturing setup to a more industrial approach, Cimolai Technology has reduced engineering time by 30% and integration time by 50%. Having Teamcenter® software as the backbone plays a crucial role in unifying the whole organization.

Conclusion

Giovanni’s presentation at Realize LIVE 2024 highlighted the transformative impact of NX on Cimolai Technology’s operations. Their journey towards digital transformation underscores the importance of robust and efficient tools in achieving business success.
