What’s New in Xpedition – Data Management
In the first What’s New in Xpedition blog post, we reviewed how the Xpedition VX.2 series of releases address the increasing complexity of today’s advanced system designs, through an emphasis on both ease-of-use and team productivity. In this, and upcoming blog posts, we will take a look under the hood and check out what’s new in several functional areas. A great place to start is with Data Management. Xpedition data management functionality provides an integrated solution for component creation and library and design data management.
With the VX.2 series of releases, a new Xpedition reuse solution, Managed Block Design, was introduced. This new reuse solution consists of two flows: self-managed block design, and enterprise managed block design. Both of the managed block design flows provide users with the ability to publish reusable logical and physical Intellectual Property (IP) directly from applications, and then share this IP with others to quickly build new products. Specifically:
- Self-Managed Block Design: The basic flow for sharing design IP for reuse among a small design community
- Enterprise Managed Block Design: The full management flow for sharing design IP for reuse within an enterprise
The main difference between the two flows is the formal management of the source design and the library content when using enterprise managed block design. A webinar discussing the benefits of reusable circuit blocks using Xpedition managed block design technology is available for more information.
The VX.2 series also delivers innovative data management functionality that provides for:
- Easy access to where-used data for parts, reuse blocks, schematic and PCB’s
- Security controls based on account, group or role
- Seamless management of 3D component models
- Rapid comparison of designs, components or part lists
If you would like a preview of what’s new, please feel free to check out the What’s New in Xpedition video, along with online demos of the highlights for each of the VX.2 releases. You can also take a quick tour of Xpedition Enterprise to get a great overview of all the functionality that Xpedition has to offer.
