Vehicle electrification and the automotive revolution

By ToniB

We’re currently going through one of the most significant revolutions in the automotive industry in the past century.

Vehicle electrification, autonomy and shared mobility are three big trends driving change. Vehicle electrification has garnered a lot of interest amongst many players, including OEMs and startups.

We recently spoke with Dave Lauzun, vice president of transportation and automotive at Siemens PLM Software, about how electric vehicles are a good thing for the industry.

“Those new companies out there will push the established and the existing companies to be better, to go faster, to be better, to be quicker,” he said.

To be faster, better, and quicker, every company, whether it’s a large OEM or a startup, will need to do more and more virtually for electric vehicles, he added.

Using technology like the digital twin can show how every system of the vehicle performs and allows the manufacturer to complete virtual validation as they proceed. This reduces the time-to-market and makes the design and development process less expensive and faster.

In this video, Dave discusses how virtual validation, design and analysis can accelerate the development efforts and offer a price-friendly electric vehicle option to the consumer.
