Support Your Sustainable Products Initiatives With The Right Technology
Developing sustainable products is a must for any company that competes in today’s global marketplace. In a previous blog, I talked about the importance of the greening of the brand and leading markets with sustainable, green products. Companies are redefining their processes in efforts to achieve product sustainability and bring compliant, winning products to the market. In practical terms, this means product manufacturers must design for compliance by choosing green, compliant materials to use in their products.
A big step in moving towards sustainable products includes deploying the right technology. In a July 2016 article published in Automotive Design and Production, author Lawrence Gould states “Software that supports sustainable manufacturing and environmentally conscious products help make going green somewhat easier.”
Design for compliance should be embedded into your overall product lifecycle strategy. Key steps to improving your design for compliance process include:
- Intelligently integrating material and substance information into your design environment
- Granting your designers access to an approved materials library when creating material assignments from CAD tools
- Automating the data exchange of material and substance declarations with suppliers as early as possible
- Capturing and reporting on the material content of your products early on in the design process
