Tuesday, June 11
Demonstration: 5-Axis Machining – CAD, CAM and CNC
Complex 5 axis machining requires starting with useable geometry, generating effective tool path, and managing how the machine controller handles it. We will discuss typical issues found in aerospace geometry and how to deal with these anomalies. Advanced mathematical functions available in modern controllers and how to use them to solve part positioning errors, adaptive machining, axis cross over errors and surface finish issues will be discussed. Examples of effective integration between NX CAM and SINUMERIK 840d will be presented.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will gain knowledge of what it takes to solve issues while machining complex aerospace components.
We will demonstrate a use case where issues in CAD, CAM, CNC and Inspection contributed to a single problem.
Upon completion, participants will have a better understanding of how 5 axis tool paths are created in the CAM system and how they are handled at the machine.
Presenters: Edwin Gasparraj, Principal Consultant, SIXDIGMA LLC
Date: Tuesday, June 11, 11:15am – 12:00pm, Room 334
Wednesday, June 12
