Engineering.com Spotlights Siemens AI Copilot: A New Era of CAM Programming
Siemens was recently featured in Engineering.com, a leading digital publication for engineers, designers, and manufacturing professionals worldwide. The article highlights insights from Michael Taesch, Senior Director of Product Management at Siemens Digital Industries Software, on the upcoming release of the NX CAM AI Copilot.
AI isn’t the future of manufacturing — it’s the present, and it’s moving fast. What once took hours of CAM programming can now be done in minutes with the help of intelligent copilots that learn, adapt, and accelerate the way engineers work. Siemens is at the forefront of this shift with its upcoming NX CAM AI Copilot, as recently featured in Engineering.com. More than just an automation tool, it’s a knowledge-capturing, time-saving partner designed to empower engineers and usher in a new era of smarter, faster, more resilient manufacturing.

Michael Taesch on AI in CAM
At Realize Live 2025 in Detroit, Taesch spoke with Engineering.com about how Siemens is fusing AI into the CAM programming process within NX X Manufacturing. His message was clear: AI isn’t here to replace engineers—it’s here to empower them.
“We’re not here to replace the manufacturing engineer. We want to give them multiple processes, and it’s up to the engineer to pick the right one based on his or her knowledge.” – Michael Taesch
The NX CAM Copilot, currently in beta, will generate multiple machining strategies for a given feature with just a couple of clicks. Starting with 2.5-axis and 3-axis machining, it provides engineers with intelligent options they can refine and customize to their company’s standards.
NX CAM Copilot can save 80% or more of the time that users would otherwise spend on CAM programming,” Taesch explains.
Why This Matters
As covered in Engineering.com, Taesch sees the NX CAM Copilot as both a time-saver and a knowledge-capture tool. CAM programming is powerful but time-consuming, and every company has its own unique best practices. By learning user preferences through a simple feedback system, the Copilot becomes increasingly personalized — helping engineers work faster and smarter.
Looking Ahead
Siemens plans to release NX CAM Copilot by the end of 2025 as part of its NX X Manufacturing value-based licensing. Taesch summed it up best: AI in manufacturing isn’t about replacement — it’s about empowering engineers to do more with less effort.
