What Happens in Vegas… v2

By Tim Egloff

First day of PLM Connection is off to a roaring start.  Check Chris Kelley’s blog post about it.

On day one we had a taste of digital manufacturing from Andreas Saar, VP R&D for Component Manufacturing Solutions who presented some of the latest developments and future strategies for the NX CAM solution.

Much is in flux as the machine tool industry has been growing through 2010 with even stronger results so far in 2011; a good indication of a rebound for manufacturing as a whole.

Andreas talked about some of the trends happening now and how Siemens is positioned with an integrated suite of solutions from manufacturing planning to the shop floor.  Multi-part machining, multi-stage, in-process work-piece management, end-to-end process support and services, deeper collaboration between the machine tool vendors and software vendors just touches the tip of the iceberg of where the CAM business is going.

So keep an eye out for my interview with Andreas as I ask him about the value of data and process management for addressing the growing product and machine tool complexity.

The main Tecnomatix events start full-bore tomorrow so stay tuned.
