Honda of America improves Planning Productivity

By Markus Erlmann

Honda of America was the first customer speaking at the Digital Manufacturing Symposium at the IMTS in Chicago. Eric Grajo and Mike Lyle discussed how to leverage technology disruptions to challenge convention and promote business process innovation. They reference PLM as the technology disruption.

Their goal is to achieve maximum value for their customers. The main drivers are:

  • Flexibility: build any model, anywhere

  • Speed: reduce time-to-market

  • Collaboration: co-creation without silos

Eric and Mike showed some detailed videos which are examples of how they achieve this goal. They started with the product spec engineer and a product change. The task of this engineer is to identify and document the differences between the product versions. In the past the relevant information to handle this change was scattered in three different and independent systems. Now as they use Teamcenter as their PLM system all relevant information is in one system. This already led to high efficiency improvement.

In the next step, the process engineer picked up the change from the product spec engineer. He took a look at all the information and identified the manufacturing processes which required adjustments. In addition he chose the right tool, in this case a screw driver, to assemble the changed part.

All these tasks are easily done without searching for the right data as the product; process and resource are stored and connected in Teamcenter.
