Boswell and Bashada Talk Teamcenter Strategy

I attended the Teamcenter Strategic Update with Steve Bashada, VP of Teamcenter Development and Bill Boswell, sr. director of Teamcenter Marketing. Bill talked about the trend for enterprises to go mobile, citing a Forrester study that showed more than 50% of CIOs set mobility as a priority for their company. His use cases for the Teamcenter mobile app included design reviews, managers on the go, field service maintenance, and shop floor instructions. The bottom line is that Teamcenter Mobility helps people make smarter decisions anytime, anywhere, through an easy-to-use, secure, reliable user experience.

Bill Boswell talks about Teamcenter mobility strategy and key investment areas

Bill pointed to Teamcenter’s key investment areas in systems engineering, corporate social networks, cacheless search, massive model viewing, HD-PLM active workspace, thin client/style sheets, and simplified install and upgrade. He also reported that Teamcenter has over 4,000 installs of the unified architecture.

Steve Bashada covered the new process and priority for performance testing: “Every release will be faster,” pointing to functions in Teamcenter 8.3 that are as much as 75% faster. He said the top reasons to upgrade to 8.3 are performance, usability, and quality.

Steve Bashada addresses the audience about Teamcenter strategy

In Teamcenter 9.0, Steve described the enhancements to Systems Engineering as a bigger investment and showed how the solution supports traceability for all the domains across the lifecycle. He walked through the investments across the portfolio, highlighting the new Cortona3D content management integration that “blows away” the completion and the new visual reporting that will come standard in the Teamcenter base. With great anticipation, Steve also unveiled the new thin client user interface with an embedded visualization viewer and usability style sheets.
