Going green with BCT

“Be the change you want to see in the world”

Mahatma Gandhi

An interesting and brief presentation this morning by Juergen Hilleman the CEO of  BCT.  He made some quick points about climate change and bio-diversity and then made the point that PLM is going to be a key for manufacturers to address environmental challenges.

Here are a few points he made that I think we’ll hear from a variety of presentations all week:

  • Avoid physical validation
  • Commonization and reuse are critical
  • Design recovery value into the products at the outset

I’m interested in hearing more about designing recovery into products.  PLM is the solution to managing the BOM of products, staying in compliance and having an effective end of life strategy for manufactured goods.  The days of piles of obsolete cell phones going to a landfill are going to be over and PLM is how manufacturers will manage this process.

There’s going to be a lot more coming this week.  And I’ll be paying careful attention to presenters mentioning “green” product and manufacturing strategies.
