LIVE WEBINAR: Improving ship efficiency through co-simulation
Environmental concerns are having an ever increasing effect on the marine industry. Pressure to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency is coming from regulating bodies and ship owners. Accurate prediction of fuel efficiency and ship operation early in the design process can result in greater fuel savings and better early stage design decisions. However, the standard marine design and test process does not predict operation under realistic operating conditions, nor enable understanding of the interactions between different ship components and systems.
While simulation is becoming recognized as a useful design tool in the marine industry, the full extent of its capabilities is only slowly being realized. Co-simulation between 3D CFD simulations and 1D system simulations is the first step in creating a digital twin of the ship design that allows greater realism in results and optimization of complete ship systems.
