The semiconductor industry is experiencing a new wave of growth. In 2017, the industry grew 22%, with 8.5% growth in non-memory markets. Additionally, the venture capital funding of semiconductor startups skyrocketed in late 2017 and early 2018.
Wally Rhines, President and CEO of Mentor, a Siemens Business, recently sat down to discuss the new wave of growth in the semiconductor industry with Dan Hutcheson of VLSI Research. Rhines & Hutcheson discuss the driving factors behind the industry’s growth, including AI and machine learning domain-specific processors. Rhines and Hutcheson also examine the recent investments made by the Chinese government, and the impact this has had on the Chinese semiconductor industry.
