What is Designcenter Student Edition?
Designcenter Student Edition is a free software download from Siemens Digital Industries Software that includes comprehensive 3D design tools from Designcenter CAD software and a full suite of CAM programming tools from NX for manufacturing. Designcenter Student Edition brings you the most powerful and integrated design, manufacturing and simulation software for free.
How is the new version of Designcenter Student Edition different from the old NX Student Edition?
The new Designcenter Student Edition is available to download and install from Siemens Software Center from July 2026 onwards. It was previously available to download from Siemens Support Center. To download the Student Edition, you will first have to download and install Siemens Software Center if you do not have it already. Then, once you have signed up for the Designcenter Student Edition on the trials webpage, you can download and install from the Siemens Software Center application. You will need to stay logged in to SSC with the same account you used to sign up for the Student Edition, as you will open Designcenter Student Edition from SSC each time you use the application.
The new Designcenter Student Edition still includes CAD, CAM and CAE. It is still available to sign up using the Siemens trial platform. It still includes a one-year license to Student Edition, after which you will have to create a new account for a new license.
Who can download the Designcenter Student Edition?
At this time, individuals, students, educators and lifelong learners can download the Designcenter Student Edition. You do not need to verify student status. You must be 15 years or older to sign up, and it is only available for Windows 64-bit machines.
How to download Designcenter Student Edition

- Go to the trials sign up page for Designcenter Student Edition and sign in or follow the prompts to create a new account.
- Submit “Trial Details”.
- Launch Designcenter Student Edition trial.
- Download Siemens Software Center.
- Open the download file.
- In the new window that opens, log in with the same email you used to register for the trial and follow the verification prompts.
- Open Siemens Software Center from your desktop.
- Click the “download “Download” button on Designcenter Student Edition or click the three dots for install options.
- Once the status is “Downloaded”, click the “Install” button.
- Once the status is “Installed”, click “Open” to begin using Designcenter Student Edition.
Each time you use Designcenter Student Edition, you will need to launch it from Siemens Software Center.
How often does the Designcenter Student Edition update?
New versions of Designcenter Student Edition are available with every commercial release of Designcenter: twice a year in June and December. The Student Edition follows approximately a few weeks to a month behind the commercial release. With Siemens Software Center, you can easily update to the latest version in the SSC application.
