Student stories: How future engineers are using Siemens software to design products, gain new skills and more

Undergraduate engineering programs are exciting and rewarding, but they can also be exceptionally challenging. Between project deadlines and mastering complex tools, students need the right technology and training to bring their ideas to life. Meet three engineering students who are using Siemens software and Siemens Xcelerator Academy to sharpen their skills, gain real-world experience and power their careers.

To get a jumpstart on your next project, download Siemens software like NX CAD and Simcenter on our student software page. To explore free student software training, follow our step-by-step guide to access Siemens Xcelerator Academy.

Yahya Elmasri – From the classroom to international competitions

At Cairo University, aerospace engineering student Yahya Elmasri is part of the AIAA DBF Aerodynamics team, working on UAV design, wind tunnel testing and CFD studies. He helped secure a Siemens software grant so his team could access the full portfolio including NX and Simcenter.

Yahya found NX allowed his team to collaborate more effectively — a must for working on complex projects in a compressed timeframe.

“With NX, we’re more into using software as a team. It has more capabilities than other CAD software. From a technical point of view, you can do more assemblies, you can do more parts, you can share stuff with your friends. You can do whole sheet metals and additive manufacturing.”

For Yahya, having access to Xcelerator Academy gave him a hands-on way to grow his technical skills fast.

“There weren’t many tutorials out there, so Xcelerator Academy helped me move beyond trial and error and actually understand the software.”

Hani Qaqish – From student to Siemens leader

Hani Qaqish, now leading NX X manufacturing at Siemens, knows firsthand how far those skills can take you. As a student at Wayne State University, he used NX to design and 3D print a prosthetic. That experience helped land him an internship and later a full-time role at Siemens.

“With NX, we’re able to do some modeling, manufacturing applications and some CAE. And in this sense, it’s really important to understand how we can model and manufacture.”

Hani encourages students to take advantage of the Siemens student program and Xcelerator Academy to learn not only the tools, but also how they fit into real-world manufacturing.

“NX is very powerful and a skill you can leverage within work and on a personal basis.”

Imoro Hamidu – Designing the future in Ghana

Imoro Hamidu, an aerospace engineering student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, started with Solid Edge and now uses NX to build complex assemblies, including the impeller pictured below.

For his final year design project, he’s going all in with Siemens software. Imoro found Xcelerator Academy early in his college journey and has used it ever since.

“The courses are well structured, and the tutorial videos are integrated with real-world problems. It’s an ideal platform for any student preparing for certification or wanting to understand how engineering works in industry.”

Level up your skills and launch your future

From designing prosthetics and UAVs to preparing for global competitions and job interviews, Siemens tools are helping students around the world build their future — one skill, one project and one breakthrough at a time.
