This month we announced a new kind of academic partnership with the University of Cincinnati (UC). We have a long history with UC. Nearly 50 years ago, graduates and a professor from UC formed SDRC and developed I-deas software, which later merged with Unigraphics to become NX.

Together UC and Siemens will establish a new Technology Center. Our CEO Chuck Grindstaff noted during the announcement that this is an important part of our strategic academic initiative to develop the next generation of digital talent.

UC’s Dean Teik Lim highlighted in this video why this is a “landmark model for how industry and academia collaborate”.

As Dean Lim said, this is a shift in how students learn beyond the confines of the traditional classroom.

This center will be committed to PLM with an emphasis on democratizing simulation across disciplines throughout the college. UC will provide the curriculum developed in the center for us to share with all Siemens PLM Software academic partners. In addition to the curriculum, we are excited to work with UC on R&D projects.

This comprehensive partnership embeds Siemens software in research in addition to education and training in the classroom. It will provide a focal point for industry directed research that results in cutting-edge advances in the areas of systems modeling and simulation in Siemens software.

The center will encourage increased industry and academia collaboration. to inject real world experience and cross-domain systems thinking into engineering curriculum.

The center will also serve as a central hub for democratizing simulation through data interoperability, multiphysics modeling, cloud-based accessibility, parametric scalable models, performance simulation and design optimization of product development and complex cyber-physical systems.

This partnership underscores our commitment to prepare students for Industry 4.0.

To learn more about that commitment, watch this new video that highlights how we are collaborating with academia to change engineering education.

Prepare your students to achieve their full potential and become skilled graduates. Add Siemens PLM software and resources to your curriculum today.

Siemens PLM Software provides its partner schools:

  • PLM software and support for digital product design, simulation, analysis, manufacturing and product data management, including engineering software to support physical testing and correlation to simulation

  • Real-world academic projects and competitions support

  • Free online curriculum, tutorials and training for NX, Solid Edge, Tecnomatix, Simcenter, and Teamcenter
