future female engineers to rise to the top"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It\u2019s true, women are enrolling in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aei.org\/carpe-diem\/gender-gap-in-stem-women-are-majority-of-stem-grad-students-and-they-earn-a-majority-of-stem-bachelors-degrees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">STEM\ngraduate studies<\/a> more than men (50.6 percent) and far outpace them in\nhealth and media sciences (77.9 percent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, when it comes to women enrolling in the\nengineering part of STEM the percentage is extremely low: 25.2 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even as the numbers increase and more women enter STEM\nfields, it\u2019s been a consistent challenge to inspire women to head into the engineering\nfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, over <a href=\"https:\/\/research.swe.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/10\/18-SWE-Research-Flyer_FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">32\npercent<\/a> of women switch out of STEM degree programs in college and only 13\npercent of engineers are women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gedcouncil.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Engineering\nDean\u2019s Council<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifees.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International\nFederation of Engineering Education Societies<\/a> wanted to develop a way to\nencourage women to pursue their education and career in engineering.\nRecognizing the challenges and turnover, they found that they could inspire\nwomen by showing the journeys that those women before them have forged and how\npassion can translate into a rewarding career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the book, <em>Rising to\nthe Top<\/em>, thirty-two women share their journeys to professional success,\nincluding Brenda Discher, the Senior Vice President of Business Strategy &amp;\nMarketing at Siemens Digital Industry Software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brenda\u2019s insight into her decades of engineering success
