Siemens additive manufacturing network

By Blake Snodgrass

Siemens’ involvement in additive manufacturing endeavors continue to advance, becoming more robust, with several examples of 3D printing technology that are impacting the simulating and printing of consolidated parts at scale, with repeatable quality. The industrialization of this technological innovation is driven through end-to-end solutions as well as partnerships and an open ecosystem for advancing this effort.

Establishing a footprint in this industry, Siemens launched an Additive Manufacturing (AM) network for following pilots and successful implementations with customers and partners Decathlon, Siemens Gas & Power, Siemens Mobility, HP and Materialise. The Siemens AM Network provides a progressive cloud-based solution fostering a collaborative approach of process orchestration among engineers, with procurement and suppliers of 3D printed parts.

This new network was recently spotlighted last month at the Formnext conference in Frankfurt, Germany. It provides the stepping stones for assisting companies in accelerating the adoption of additive manufacturing, digitalizing the order-by-delivery process via the alignment of engineering and commercial methods to create premium quality working prototypes and serial parts production. Promoting a collaborative approach, the system connects buyers and global suppliers, thus streamlining the process, fostering engagement, orchestrating workflow and increasing throughput for reducing operational costs.

“Siemens’ additive manufacturing experts and industry veterans have developed the additive manufacturing network based on a clear understanding of the complexities and needs of the industry, fostered by a sincere passion to promote the adoption of AM in the industrial domain,” said Zvi Feuer, Senior Vice President Manufacturing Engineering at Siemens Digital Industries Software. “As buyers, sellers and partners continue to plug into the ecosystem, they will find a streamlined, modular solution that can grow with each company’s individual needs.”

The Additive Manufacturing Network is another way how Siemens facilitates access with up-to-the-minute knowledge and technological advancements in adopting industrial additive manufacturing – allowing customers to digitally transform business operations. This network showcases a complete system, highlighting features such as:

  • digital Inventory
  • part analysis
  • RFQ process
  • supplier network
  • cost analysis
  • order intake
  • customer communication
  • production tracking and scheduling
  • data analytics
  • dashboards
  • reports.
