{"id":865,"date":"2017-03-14T14:30:53","date_gmt":"2017-03-14T21:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.plm.automation.siemens.com\/t5\/Tecnomatix-News\/Tecnomatix-Plant-Simulation-software-helps-students-see-their\/ba-p\/397070"},"modified":"2026-03-26T06:56:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T10:56:17","slug":"tecnomatix-plant-simulation-software-helps-students-see-their-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sw.siemens.com\/tecnomatix\/tecnomatix-plant-simulation-software-helps-students-see-their-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Tecnomatix Plant Simulation software helps students see their future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><P><SPAN>In November 2016,&nbsp;<\/SPAN><a href=\"http:\/\/www.siemens.com\/us\/en\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Siemens<\/A>&nbsp;<SPAN>presented Clemson University in South Carolina with its largest gift-in-kind &#8212; product lifecycle management software, including Tecnomatix&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.plm.automation.siemens.com\/en_us\/products\/tecnomatix\/manufacturing-simulation\/material-flow\/plant-simulation.shtml\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Plant Simulation<\/A>&nbsp;software, with a commercial value of $357,224,294.<\/SPAN><SPAN>With the software available to all students, the <\/SPAN><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/automotive-engineering\/research\/manufacturing-and-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Automotive Manufacturing Systems<\/A><SPAN> class in the university&#8217;s College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences, had a project component for the first time in the fall semester 2016.<\/SPAN><\/P><br \/>\n<P>Many students come to Clemson University for the opportunity to learn through&nbsp;hands-on experiences in an academically challenging setting, but for graduate students in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clemson.edu\/cecas\/departments\/automotive-engineering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">automotive engineering<\/A>, who are learning how to optimize vehicle production, being hands-on is a little more challenging.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>In the automotive manufacturing systems class, Clemson adjunct professor Joerg Schulte assigns his class to work in teams to design a complete automobile production system, in other words, factories, from the press shop to the body shop to assembly.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cWe can\u2019t build that up in reality, so in order to get as close to reality as we can I\u2019ve been using the plant simulation software package from Siemens,\u201d said Schulte, who also is manager of the BMW Liaison Office for Research and Innovation.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>\u201cWithout this software, it wouldn\u2019t be possible for the students to really get to the detail of what it means to run a production system \u2013 how many stations and workers are needed, what kind of cycle time each station has, how to sync material supplies, etc.,\u201d Schulte said.<\/P><br \/>\n<P>With the simulation software, engineers can \u201ctest drive\u201d their designs and run a few months of automobile production in a matter of hours.
